Being an Austin, Texas resident has been a little less than pleasant the last few weeks for obvious reasons. But I've had a few conversations that are particularly annoying. These conversations ended with a range of conversations from the horrific to the pleasant, but all ended with a Longhorn concluding, "I hope you beat Florida, so there will be an asterisk on your National Championship. We beat you head to head."

We'll, Texas fans, the only asterisk will be in YOUR own minds. Oklahoma made the title game by winning a 3-way tiebreaker through a process signed off by your athletic director. You were left out by both the subjective voters and the objective computers recognizing that you had a poor out-of conference slate and OU having a superior road win.

In 10, 20 or 30 years, NO ONE but you Texas fans (ond only some of you at that) will place and asterisk in front of our National Championship for 2008, assuming we win. And, by the way, WHAT AN INCREDIBLY WHINY, WHIMPY WAY OF LOOKING AT THINGS.

OU is simply a better football program, and that's a fact. And if we beat you next year, hopefully you'll have the class to STFU (but why should
I expect this after the last 4 weeks)!

IF OU beats UF they will be undisputed NATIONAL CHAMPS. Same for UF. This is the system we have, so be it.

Ask them to check the record books for asterisks next to other one loss champions.

The winner of the BCS Championship game, WILL be the BCS Champion, by definition.

If TX wants to give themselves a "People's Championship," that's fine, they have my congratulations.

A lot of teams that won the AP or UPI national title went on to lose their bowl games. Texas is one of them. So is OU. But I don't see any asterisks next to their names.

Unless you run the table, there will always be somebody (typically the losers) saying there is an "asterisk"

If Texas wins the Fiesta Bowl, then Tech needs to put an asterisk on that, since they beat Texas.

You're correct that the only asterisk will be in the horns fans minds. And that's a good thing - keep 'em in a funk for eternity :P

As long as OU wins I could care less what happens in Glendale....but I would like the Bucknuts to win their bowl game this season just to shut them up some. The funny thing is none of the Whorns around me say any of that stuff but I hear read plenty of whining going on in the news.

They have an asterisk next to all our championships, did you not know that? This one will be lined up right along with cheated and got lucky.....

2007: 12-2 LSU*

*did not lose a game in regulation

badger

I'm gonna put an asterisk in front of all previous titles then :D

2007: LSU*
2006: Florida**
2005: Texas***
2004: USC****
2003: LSU/USC*****
2002: Ohio State******
2001: Miami*******
2000: Oklahoma ********

*Backdoored into the title game only because Mizzou lost and nobody took an undefeated Hawaii seriously.
**Did not deserve to be in the title game in the first place, because Michigan said so.
*** We all know Utah could have beaten you and as Leinart said, 49 out of 50 times USC could have beaten you, so no title for you.
**** Undefeated Auburn was in the SEC and we all know from SEC blowhards how tough the SEC is.
***** Sorry, home games are not championship games, which also goes for you too, USC. Thus, no title shall be awarded this year.
****** Remember the late flag thrown? Miami sure does, so we are going to close our eyes and pretend that flag never came.
******* With all disrespect to everyone and especially Miami, Nebraska was not a conference champion. Thus, you shall not get a championship until you beat a conference champion in the title game. Also, Big East and Big 12 teams don't belong in the Rose Bowl.
******** Oh, where to start... you didn't play Miami, which beat Florida State, Washington has some crazy tiebreaker scheme to claim here, you nearly lost to Oklahoma State, which would have been an unforgivable sin had it happened and is only slightly less forgiving since it didn't and second-year coaches must earn their way to the title game by seniority... or at least a lot of BCS-related whining.

Poor poor shorthorns. Not disputing your point but 1950 OU finished 10-1 not 12-1.Finished the regular season 10-0,lost to Kentucky and Bear Bryant 13-7 in the Sugar Bowl.

As long as we get to put a crystal football in the Switzer Center, I'm fine with them putting an asterisk up in their trophy room.

Somehow I have a feeling that if we win and Alabama wins the Sugar Bowl, Alabama is going to somehow claim a National Title also. Thats how they roll. :D

If you want an asterisk, it should go up next to 2007. Nobody deserved to be called a national champion last season. We should've just held the regular bowls and left it at that.

Texas isn't even the best team in TEXAS (by their own head-to-head argument) let alone the best team in the counry. THAT team will be detemined on Jan 8th!

Texas has become america's head-to-head WHINER, not head-to-head WINNER. Just goes to show their fans can't do anything right. Can't win right, can't lose right, what a bunch of losers.
