I was just watching college football spotlight on ESPN and they showed a highlight of Gideon dropping the INT against Tech. Rece Davis said the Longhorns were THAT close to being in the national title game.

That got me thinking. If Texas would have gone undefeated and won the Big XII Championship, would we have likely had a rematch on our hands?

Texas would be a unanimous #1 in the polls, Florida a unanimous #2, and us arguably a unanimous #3. However, we would still be ahead of Florida in the computers. Worst case scenario, we would be a unanimous #2 in the computers which would give us a .960 computer ranking. They have a .890 computer ranking, and I'm too lazy to figure out if the human polls would make up that difference.

What if......

With the scenario you given...
If Texas was unanimous #1 in all polls (Harris, Coaches, and computers). They would have 1.000 rating in the BCS.
If Florida was unanimous #2 in the human polls, but had the computer rankings as they do now. They would have a 0.9367 rating in the BCS. If Florida would have been a unanimous #3 in the computers, they would have a rating of 0.9467.
If Oklahoma was unanimous #3 in the human polls, but given what Texas has in the computer polls right now. OU would have a rating of 0.9267 in the BCS. If OU was a unanimous #2 in the computers, then the rating would be 0.9333.


Given what you given me, Florida would be ahead of OU in the BCS Standings so the rematch would not have occured had Texas went undefeated.

The only way if Texas was unanimous #1 & undefeated and OU was unaminous #3 in the human polls, that a rematch would have occured was if:
1. OU was unanimous #2 in the computers
2. Florida had been ranked #3 in 4 of the 6 computers and ranked #8 or lower in 2 of the computers. Since they throw out the highest and lowest ranked computers. That means 3 of the computers would have a 23 and 1 would have an 18 to get computer rating of 0.870.

Given this, OU would have a rating of 0.9333 and Florida would have a rating of 0.9300

CurtisFagan: Yep, I've thought about that a lot, like I'm sure a lot of Whorns fans do. That guy holds onto the INT & it's all different. UT plays & wins Big 12 Championship, & goes to NCG. OU would be in Fiesta. Colt wins the Heisman. Roles would be reversed. I might could muster some sympathy if it was anybody but Texas. Call it destiny, (indirect) Sooner Magic or whatever, fact is--it is what it is & both the Sooner & Cherokee Nations are happy. Now, let's go take care of business with whatever players we have left on the roster come game time.
