I read on the Rivals board that Granger is out of the national championship game too.

Back Surgery Sidelines Granger

Sooner defensive tackle will miss BCS Title Game, Spring Practice

Dec. 17, 2008

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger will miss Oklahoma's upcoming BCS title game appearance after undergoing back surgery, OU head coach Bob Stoops said Wednesday.

Granger has battled chronic lower back problems for much of his career and missed the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship game as a result of the ailment. The surgery was performed Monday and OU Head Athletics Trainer Scott Anderson said that Granger will likely miss spring practice while recovering.

"Our doctors and training staff have worked extensively with DeMarcus and it was finally determined that surgery was necessary," Stoops said. "We're disappointed for DeMarcus and are certainly anxious to do everything we can to assist his recovery."

Granger, a junior from Dallas, played in 11 games during the 2008 season all in a back-up role. He had 20 tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Any injury hurts, but Taylor and McCoy have been handling the starting spots well. They are the #1 and #2 as far as everything goes this year and have been all year. Moore and Bennett are doing fine in the rotation. It hurts not having DeMarcus, because he has done well rotating in given how much his back has been bothering him. I would much rather he get his back taken care of and come back 100% as a senior. I hope he doesn't have any permanent damage.

Florida is in an over-rated conference this year... LSU, South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee and even Alabama aren't the scoring machines that the Big 12 South has been. Florida hasn't faced all-world QB with great passing attacks and a running game to match. We have face 4 of those teams in the last few weeks.

We won't miss Granger as Taylor has done a great job over the last few weeks since Granger got injured in the Washington game. Middle LB loss was painful in the Texas game but the mixed coverage with Travis in the middle rotating with Nic Harris in the middle and Proctor rotating in the safety position next to Holmes has really confused offenses (like Mizzou). Brilliant disguised coverages.

Florida has only a few break-out players... cover the middle to keep Tebow from making a difference (McCoy, Taylor and the rotating middle LB can cover this), cover Demps with a fast lineback (Clayton) and your cornerbacks can cover Harvin (and hope that his ankle still isn't 100%... he's been out a lot this year and it doesn't seem to take much to tweak his ankle).

I like our chances... and I especially like being the underdogs in this one. Let the media shower their love all over Florida... give them the point spread. We saw how accurate they were with Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Mizzou.

Give us more bulletin board material.

I'm ready for this game.

VA Sooner
12/17/2008, 10:53 PM
The bigger matchup to watch is Chris Brown and Mossis Madu up the middle against Brandon Spieks, their all-american linebacker. With rotating backs, we should wear him out eventually.

They have a very good cornerback on one side so take advantage of the other cover man. However, we have too many receivers and tight ends and even our backs can catch so it's a lot for Florida's defense to cover.

We will miss DeMarco Murray however. He's a difference maker especially with the plays around the edges whether it be passing or rushing. He also is our leading yardage man in kickoff and punt returns. That's our bigger loss.

This is the ridiculous one. Because Granger & Murray are out again, someone posted a joke (including wink/smiley) that Lendy was next & would not make grades again. Too many worry warts took this as gospel and started the panic throughout Sooner Nation.

You can't tell me there aren't some 4.0 students at OU who could slide their desk an inch or 2 closer to his during exams....

And for that matter what happened to basket-weaving as a major for these guys? Florida State proved in 2000 that Criminal Justice isnt the easy way for athletes anymore, but there has to be something besides business with all that adding and uh, subtractinating.

Seriously...He'll be fine I think. No way he's gonna let grades keep him from laying a huge hit on Harvin at some point when he's thinking end zone and miss out on watching him "suddenly" remember his ankle is hurt and lay their squirming, pretending it's pain to mask his fear.

Same poster that first brought up the Granger injury is now posting that OU had three more go down yesterday. One DE, a starting WR, and a starting TE.

Anybody hearing any of this? I normally ignore rumors but the guy got some cred on an insider board I subscribe to because he was the first with the Granger thng.

Hope it isn't true, would remind me of when UF had 4 acl's in fall practice before the season started.

Alpha, you mean those big bad big 12 defenses that couldn't break the top 50 with the exception of TCU? Check out the scores of the OOC games against the big 12 before you start with the big 12 offenses being so good defense. UF OL will do just fine, thank you.

I know that there is a certain rumor going around about a certain player needing to pass a few certain tests (FINALS!) in order to have a certain amount of eligibility (i.e. ALL of it) to play in a certain game (THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP) and if he doesn't pass said tests the particular player will be ineligible to play in said game.

As such, I know that college was seemingly easy for a few of you, including me. I had good study habits, I attended all classes and all tests and took suffice notes and got my degree. It's not as easy for others and hope this certain player has found the help he needs to be successful, because all football players are one injury away from never stepping on the field again and need something to fall back on, like an education.
