We are making the drive from Albuquerque to OKC for the millionth or so time next week and are looking for new places to eat. We've hit The Big Texan, some tapas place in Amarillo that was supposed to be good but was overated, The Donut Stop in Amarillo (good donuts, but Mr. NMS isn't willing to dine on donuts alone), and the onion burger place in El Reno.

Does anyone have any ideas about other places near I 40? Any type of food is fine, and we're willing to drive a little out of the way for good food.

In Weatherford there is a place called Benchwarmers. Pretty good eats. Try the chicken fried bacon it's a heart attack on a plate.

Thanks for the suggestions...it will be nice to try something a little different.

I don't think I've eaten at a Taco Bell since college (and that was a LOOOONNNGG time ago).
Does anyone know if there is decent BBQ along the I 40 corridor?

White Dog Hill on old Route 66 just east of Clinton is teh awesome, but their days/hours of operation are limited...Wednesday thru Saturday, evenings only. Food is great, and the view, especially at sundown, is cool. They have renovated the old Clinton Country Club (ca. 1925). It's about my favorite place to take visitors out here. Peem me if you want more info.

There is BBQ in Elk City at the Hog Trough, not terrific, but not bad...just kinda above average. A better choice would be Jiggs Smoke House just west of Clinton. The Triple Pigsickle Sandwich is the stuff of legends, but it seems you never know if the place is gonna be open until you're there.

And, you can't go wrong with either of the suggestions above, both have good chow.

I ate at Lucille's Roadhouse along old Route 66 in Weatherford once and it was pretty good. It has a '50s diner look and diner-type food.

Simon's Catch just off I-40 in Elk City is great for steak and catfish. I recommend the filet.

Alfredo's in Weatherford is very good texmex similar to Ted's the like.

I've never eaten there personally but after watching Man vs Food, I'm trying the Burger from Hell at Coyote Bluff in Amarillo the next time I go through.

I second Jigg's and especially Simon's Catch south of Elk City.

All you can eat catfish, and it's really damn good tenderloins. Love that place!
