crimson and cream are still the "official" colors. red and white show up better on the TV when we win championships.

The new basketball jerseys are crimson and cream or at least red and cream.

I don't think you are hallucinating, but I'm not a mental health professional so you may want to see one just to make sure. However, I think that you will find that some manufactures do not want to pay for the added cost to get crimson and cream because they don't have any one else who would want that color. When you go to buy OU items, a whole lot, (at some stores most of the items) will be red and white. Simply stated, crimson and cream are cost prohibitive in a lot of cases. Many years ago, all you found were crimson and cream, and now, there are a lot of red and white items also.

I think our jerseys are crimson, aren't they? I mean, for all future references, this is our red-like color flow chart:

Red=Nebraska.

I'm sorry if I am missing the sarcasm here, but our football uni's are most assuredly crimson and cream. (So if you just set the hook on me, great... consider me the Red Fish Blue Fish One Fish Two Fish.)

Crimson is just a shade of red, just as scarlet is a shade of red. Dig up a photo of our game against Nebraska this year. Their pants are scarlet, our jerseys and helmets are crimson. They are both "red". Crimson is just a deeper shade. (Heck we even have our own Pantone called Oklahoma Crimson: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/okla/genrel/auto_pdf/primary-marks-guide.pdf )

As for "cream", cream is a bright white just like we wear on our away jerseys and pants. Many mistakenly think cream is off-white or with a hint of yellow in it like cheap Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream. It's not. Go to your local quick stop, buy a pint of heavy whipping cream. Pour it in a clear glass. It should be a very bright white. If it's not, its spoiled, so throw it out. ;)

I can't believe I am even discussing this... I gotta go stir up the sunshine pumpers with some blatant negativity... :D

(Edit: Good illustration, badger. You nailed it... Except I think on Friday nights down on 6th Street in Austin most of the fellas go with a hot pink. Lid could probably verify... )

I personally like to equate the color to a deep red wine.

Cream is the color of the cream produced by cattle grazing on natural pasture with plants rich in yellow carotenoid pigments, some of which are incorporated into the cream, to give a slight yellow tone to the white.

So for all you cream purists out there just transfer your game video to super 8, let sit 20 years, and behold: CREAM!

OU got these colors when the first President of the university asked his secretary to decide on the school colors. Crimson and Cream were her favorite colors. Odds are, crimson and cream were a little different colors 120 years ago from what they are today. So, I would say, all in all, it really doesn't matter compared to several other things in life, like winning #8 next month.:D
