Fox 10 in Mobile is reporting Muschamp will named the Barn's HC tomorrow. Will the Horns be on suicide watch if this happens?

Watching the Barner's twist in the wind is fun! They enjoyed our emotional roller coaster in the Coaching search a few years ago, and I must admit I'm loving every minute of their's.

Its nice to finally be on this side of it! I hope whoever they hire stinks up the place (even worse than the already obnoxious manure smell;)) and they experience a decade of turmoil like we did. They probably won't fall that badly, but I can dream can't I?

Muschamp would be leaving a team that claims to the victim of the biggest screwjob in CFB history (by not getting the B12CG bid over OU) to go back to the team that claims that to be the victim of the biggest screwjob in CFB (by not getting the MNCG bid over OU).

At worst it might cause the Auburn Search & Beg Committee to think.....

HEY, why didn't we think of offering him?

Perhaps he owes Fox10 some old past due subscription money or something, and they just want to get him back in the area so they can collect.

I doubt Muschamp is going to AU. Head coach job there = fail.

He can wait out for the Texas job and smoothly transition into it, plus if he screws the job up the fans will just blame it on Stoops, OU, ESPN, Santa Claus, etc.

From my understanding, it's not like a HC contract, where there is a huge monetary penalty for breaking the contract by either party. It's basically a "title" that allows a school to pay an extremely good coordinator much more money than the other coordinators(See Florida State). They could easily pay him about a million a year until Mack retires, and then go with someone else as their head coach. All they would suffer is a little negative PR for their broken promise.

That whole press release during the week of Thanksgiving about Muschamp getting Mack's job when Mack retires was really just a ploy to keep the media talking about texas during the week right after we had blown Texas Tech out and were about to face oSu........ The press was not talking about texas at all and that was the only positive way they could figure out to get some press time.......

Dan Patrick is live right now and just said his source at Auburn has commented there is only one hurdle preventing Muschamp from taking the job.

Get this, he wants to report directly to the President like Saban does at Bama. This is the main hurdle. But now Muschamp has issued a statement that says he has not even been contacted by Auburn and says (and I quote) "I have not been contacted by them and I will stay at Texas until they fire me."

I would bet serious $ that although he hasn't said it, Mack gave Mush a timeline.
Hells, with Colt back, Mack may figure that next year is "his year", esp if Bradford leaves early. If he can win the Big 12 and get to the title game and possibly win it, I think Mack goes out on a high note. He could retire by 60 and VERY wealthy. He could prolly get a job on ESPiN afterwards, to boot.

Not to propose that I am "directly" in-the-know crowd, but the rumors going around the edges is that DeLoss Dodds has cancer, and will be stepping down very soon for medical reasons. This will make Mack the AD, and Muschamp will become HC. IMO, we will be taking a chance with someone who has never been a head coach, but Oklahoma did that, and it turned out pretty good.

I'm sure some AU fan will flame me for what I am about to say, but its the truth. AU's athletic department has found themselves in the very same predicament that Alabama was in between the retirement of Coach Bryant and the hiring of Coach Saban. I know some will point out we had Stallings and that run in 1992, but if the truth be known, Stallings was run out of town in almost as bad of a fashion as was Bill Curry. We had a horrible case off the "Good Ole Boy" network throwing around cash to get their way. Auburn is in the exact same situation now and until Louder, Dye and Raines agree to give up their power (which I don't see happening anytime soon) AU will continue to have trouble hiring a "name" coach. Their reputation precedes them. Someone mentioned earlier on this thread that Muschamp had said he would only take the job if he answered to the President, well; I think that is what it is going to take to get a big time coach in there. Well if they can't get Muschamp it looks like they might settle for another branch of Mack's glorious coaching tree:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3766017

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State coach Gene Chizik is in the running for the Auburn job, Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard said Friday.

Pollard acknowledged that Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs recently contacted him to speak with Chizik about the Tigers' vacancy. Pollard said in a statement that his understanding is that Chizik has met with Auburn officials and is a serious candidate for the job.

Chizik was the defensive coordinator at Auburn from 2002-04. The Tigers allowed a national-low 11.3 points per game in 2004 en route to an unbeaten season.

Chizik has gone just 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State, but was regarded among the nation's hottest young coaches when he took the job.

Chizik and Pollard were unavailable for further comment.

i've always been suprised how auburn just can seem to "get it done." whether it an undefeated season under probation with bowden or 2004 (btw auburn, you didn't get shafted - when #1 and #2 in the preseason/beginning polls don't lose, you lose out - so sorry), they just can seem to win as much as you would think. they seem to be clemson of the deep south. can't beat the recruiting grounds and with the number of rivalry games (obviously w/ bama) you would think top prospects would love to play there.
