I don't diss anyone and whatever music they might like, so if someone likes Steely Dan I have no problem with that whatsoever. That being said: I can not stand Steely Dan. :(

Do it again is one of the best songs of all time period! I don't care what George Carlin says Steely Dan is awesome! Reeling in the Years is good too!

Not really, I like the song, too. It's hard for me to narrow down a favorite Steely Dan song. They have a lot of good ones.

Back in the dark ages when I was teaching drums, every once in a while I'd get a teenage Neil Peart wannabe... I'd make 'em learn to play Time Out Of Mind from start to finish (well) before we'd go anywhere else on the kit.

Groove is king.

"Favorite Steely Dan" to me is like asking, "Favorite Time Spent in a Doctor's Waiting Room".

Yawn.

I had several students of my own back in the day...with the same Peart wannabe sindrome.....I always told them if you want to be a Peart...you'll just be another twerp...but if you become a Steve Gadd...you'll be damn glad....:D

rf5, I'm now kicking myself for not having started this thread sooner.....

Steely Dan is arguably my favorite all-time band. Some of my faves....

Hey Nineteen
Pretzel Logic
Only a Fool Would Say That
Show Biz Kids
Any World That I'm Welcome To
Fez
Black Cow
Time Out of Mind
FM
The Boston Rag
Night By Night
Dr. Wu
Everyone's Gone to the Movies
Brooklyn (although Fagen didn't sing the lead, which takes it down a notch)

I'll also throw in my favorite Donald Fagen solo tunes, mainly from "The Nightfly:"

The Goodbye Look
Teahouse on the Tracks

"Reeling in the Years" is the only one I can name off the top of my head,* but it's so good that it's the only one I need to name. :)

*And that's despite the fact that my childhood neighbor (a b!tchin drummer) used to listen to nothing but SD. :O
