Ok, Ive been thinking about this subject for a while and today I finally had time to research the facts. Yes, we give up a lot of points, but we also score a lot which gives our opponents extra possessions to score. Anyway, here are the numbers:

First off, here are the offensive scoring ranks for Oklahoma and Florida opponents:

Florida's Opponents: Offensive Scoring Rank (avg) = 62.3 (Citadel not included)

Oklahoma's Opponents: Offensive Scoring Rank (avg) = 31.7 (we played much better offenses, duh) (Chattanooga not included)

Points Per Possession:

Florida opponents had a total of 167 points scored on 160 possessions which equals 1.04 points per possession.

Oklahoma opponents had a total of 319 points scored on 190 possessions which equals 1.68 points per possession.

That is a bit of a discrepancy, but when you look at the difference in opponents offensive ranks, it's kind of a wash.

One thing is for sure....it's gonna be a helluva National Championship game and it will be settled on the field!

My tally puts it at 307 which would be 1.62 per possession.

319... He's only off by 190, but the 1.68 pts/pos is correct...

I actually think that is enough of a discrepancy to determine that Florida's defense keeps teams off the scoreboard better than our defense.

Could you run the ppp numbers for each teams offense?

I never thought to do the math, but I have thought many times that part of the reason we give up more points than some teams are because we score so much and so quickly.

That said, of course we all know that our defense isn't as good as it could be and must play one of it's best games against Florida, but obviously if we were a "grind it out" type of offense our defensive stats would look a lot better from the surface if we won every game 35-10 instead of 60ish to 20ish (or whatever).

Offensive PPP:

Oklahoma:

Total Points = 702
Possessions = 186

= 3.77 PPP

Florida:

Total Points = 587
Possessions = 163

= 3.60 PPP

We usually have more speed on the field with OUr offense than the other team's defense. This won't be the case with Florida. We will move the ball, but Sam will have less time to throw it and OUr receivers won't be as open. I believe we will be using lots of play action and bootlegs away from the strong side to slow them down. Stats don't factor in team speed. The only D we played this year as quick and similar athleticly was texass. I think we will put up 28 - 40 points against them and OUr D is gonna have to step it up big time and pressure the F out of Tebow. If these things happen # 8 will be in the trophy case.

Oh my. I just broke down the numbers some more to try and get a percentage of who is favored statistically offensively and defensively and overall. Basicly, who has been more dominant. I don't even want to post what I came up with. :eek:
