Last week on Saturday after the Bedlam game their was a tragic accident. Three sophomores were in the vehicle. One died, one is fighting for his life, and the other is gonna be okay.

Scott Mauldin and Eric Dean were great athletes and even better kids.

Scott Mauldin, the one who died, played three sports last year. He was the first freshman to ever start for our current coach. In football, he started both ways for the freshman team, played a lot on JV, and even caught a touchdown pass in a varsity game. This year he had an injury that eventually required surgery on his left knee so all he could do was punt. He could possibly have started both ways this year otherwise. In baseball, he hadn't even played in a 3-4 years. He just decided to try out for the team and made it. He started in centerfield from day one and was one of the better hitters. At 6'4, around 180 pounds, and dunking since 8th grade, this is a kid we would have been recruiting. Maybe in more than one sport.

Eric Dean is still fighting for his life. He also played three sports I believe. In football he played a lot this year at cornerback. He would have, hopefully still will be, the starter this year. He played basketball for the freshman team last year. I'm not sure, but I think he played some soccer too.

These kids didn't just get their respect from wahs they did on the field. Their were two of the most popular people in the locker room and at school. Very little work was done at school this week. We need your prayers.

Thank you for posting this...Bartlesville is my home town; in fact, I grew up across the street from Coach Spence Rigdon, mentioned in the article. Many, many prayers for those young men and their families.

I'll pray for the families.

My twins just got their permits last week...part of their growing up is me growing old.

my wife and her family are from b'ville. the one kid that made it out ok is actually the brother of her ex. ( i know, it's wierd). When she told me of the story it was really sad to hear. Having lost a good friend in a similar way, i understand how terrible a thing it is. My prayers go out to all the family and friends involved.

I live in Bartlesville and grew up about 300 yards away from where this happened. It's one of those problem streets that is on the edge of town that the city kind of ignores and there is potential for wrecks like this all the time. They need to widen the road and add yellow lines to the road. That's right, this road isn't even marked. I know he probably was traveling faster than he should have been, but this road is unsafe. I dread the day when my kids start to drive, like a lot of you.
I'll pray for these kids' families. They will be missed.

Yeah, it isn't very wide and has a big dropoff. I talked to the farmer who had land where they crashed. He didn't seem all that surprised there was another crash there.

More sad news in Bartlesville. Scott, the deceased, was a starter/regular on the Top 10 ranked basketball team at Bartlesville last year, as a freshman. Coach Tim Bart talked to the team about the accident with the help of our church's youth pastor, on Monday. On Tuesday, the father of one of the team managers, a senior, died of a sudden heart attack. Meanwhile, Eric, another teammate and victim of the crash, remains in a Tulsa hospital in an induced coma.

Eric Dean passed away Saturday about noon. He was a starting defensive back on the varsity this past season as a sophomore.
