Fun fact about OU and Florida Rivalry

There is no rivalry. They've never played each other.

I was floored when I heard this on ESPN. Really? We've never played them??? Hmm....

Yeah, I discovered that earlier today. I wanted to see what the series record was between OU and Fla. Went to soonerstats and found that we've never played them. I was kinda shocked by that as well. The idea of OU vs Florida, at least to me anyway, was an intriguing match up. Now, to see that it will be a first meeting between the two of them adds to that intrigue.

Oklahoma is 8-4 all time against teams from the state of Florida, with three of those losses going to Miami in consecutive years in the 80s.


The only loss before that was in 1964 against FSU.

It's kinda weird though that it seems that we oftentimes end up having to play a team that's from whatever state the NC game is in when we play it. UF this year. LSU in the Sugar. FSU - Orange 2000. Miami - Orange '87.
