The Oklahoma State Board of Regents approved Gundy's contract Friday at its annual meeting in Miami, Okla. The new contract will begin on Jan. 1 and will provide yearly compensation of $2.2 million. Gundy's current six-year contract paid him $1,053,000 annually.

I just would like to straighten some things out just in case resident Pokes or other lurkers have the wrong impression of Mike Gundy:

Myth: He's a man. He's 40.

Fact: Gundy was faking his defense of a quarterback so far removed from the team that the quarterback wanted to declare for the draft instead of return to the Pokes to take knees at the end of the 4th quarter. That quarterback transferred to FCS school instead. Thus, Gundy is not a man and right now, he's 41.

Myth: He has taken OSU farther than they've been before.

Fact: The best regular season Gundy's had is nine wins, which OSU has achieved before when there were LESS games in the regular season, including 1984 (9-2), 1987 (9-2), 1988 (9-2) and 2003 (9-3). The only one of those years they lost their bowl to not get 10 wins was when Gundy was the offensive coordinator in 2003.

Myth: He has achieved great success in the Big 12 South.

Fact: Worse than Baylor in his first year to take last (2004), and posted two 6-6 regular seasons in 2005, 2006, disrespectfully. This year, his best regular season by far as head coach, still saw OSU finish 4th in the Big 12 South.

Myth: He motivates his players for big games.

Fact: There are only moral victories for Gundy and OSU in big games when he is head coach. Their biggest game of the year, their "rivlary game" with OU, he is now 0-4. The bowl games his teams won are of lesser tier as his regular seasons had 6-6 records, thus he played opponents of lesser stature. OSU's new "rivalry" with Tech has only yielded postgame rants and big losses.

Myth: Overall, he is a very successful coach.

Fact: He is a mere five games above .500 with an overall record of 27–22.
