USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be named Washington coach, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night.

Sarkisian, who was quarterback at BYU, led the Cougars to a 13-1 finish in 1996. The 34-year-old has been the offensive coordinator at USC for two seasons. He was up for the Raiders head coaching job last year before it went to fellow USC assistant Lane Kiffin, who earlier this week was named head coach at Tennessee.

Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, Fresno State coach Pat Hill and Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly also interviewed for the job. Washington also persued Seattle Seahawks coach-in-waiting Jim Mora.

Weird how the coordinators putting out the least effective squads get the head coaching interviews.

They consider who's who of the head coaches and do their interviews based on recommendations a lot just like any other profession. It helps your case if you get the job done on the field, too. Some guys are regarded as can't miss head coaches but the fans don't see it because all they pay attention to are stats and message boards calling for heads after a bad game or two.

Hopefully this hurts USC in the rose bowl. Though I don't kno how their offense could get much worse lol

I'm kinda bummed. The 'SC offense has been inconsistent at best the last 2 years and the new OC might be an upgrade. :(
