Well folks, the Obama Recession ;) is deepening and hitting close to home. The Gatorade plant in Pryor announced they're letting 85 folks go. They released a statement wherein they posited people are less likely to include Gatorade in their beverage choices in tough economic times.

There is a greater context to this story - Gatorade invested a lot in Pryor. How much?
Gatorade invested $180 million. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/business/article.aspx?articleID=20080207_5_E1_hGato00052)
Gatorade built a NEW plant in Pryor, the largest plant in the country, to make and ship Gatorade to the mid-America region. They planned to have 250 employees working there when at full capacity and dump another $60k into the local United Way (whose local annual budget was about $60k, so the donation would double their budget)
But then, the layoffs started... it started with just 22. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/business/article.aspx?subjectid=48&articleid=20081015_48_E1_TeGtrd486202)
But now, an additional 87. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/business/article.aspx?subjectid=48&articleid=20081202_47_E1_TeGtrd90574)
Gatorade invested millions in Pryor, gave back to the community, gave hundreds new jobs right here in Oklahoma. This is a sad story.
But Gatorade has electrolytes. They're what plants crave.
Now if I could only find the time machine to get me back home.
