Suppose it was OSU instead of TT in the 3-way tie. In this case OU beats UT in Dallas, UT beats OSU in Austin. All 3 teams win against Tech. Now OU goes into Stillwater as BCS #1 and loses with 1 second on the clock. So who goes to the CCG ? I can guarantee it would be the horns. But, but, but.. we beat them on a neutral field! And we lost to a highly ranked 1-loss team on the road with 1 second on the clock!
It wouldn't even be close - why? Because UT would have lost early and OU lost late. Well that's basically what happened this year, but humans forget and both OU and UT losses seem like "a while back". And that's why Tech is discounted - not just because they lost big, but they lost seemingly "yesterday". So the tried and true method of lose early and work your way back up the ladder worked again this year. The constant ESPN campaigning almost flipped it around, but not quite.
