View Full Version : Why is the tiebreaker beater? Consider this...

Note: Headline should be "SEC" tiebreaker.

Let's say we have a 3 way tie in the Big 12 South and it ends up as follows:

Texas lost at OSU by 1 point.
OSU lost at home to Texas Tech by 20 points.
Texas Tech lost at home to Texas by 20 points.

The final rankings are Texas #2, OSU #7, Tech #8.

OSU would be within five points of Texas so the rule dropping Tech from consideration would apply and since OSU beat Texas OSU would go.

Is that really better?

The facts are:

1. There is no perfect tie breaker. What looks good one year might look terrible the next.

2. No conference gives any consideration to where you play. A loss is a loss and a win is a win and it's always been that way - even in tie situations.

Couldn't agree with you more. ESPN is always caught up in the moment and can't seem to understand that different situations could come up in the future. If your situation played out this year they all would be screaming that the Big 12 is ridiculous and needs to change the tie breaker to the highest ranked team. Also, no one had any complaints about the BCS when it gave us the unbelievable Texas vs USC game.

I love how the media is looking to better perfect a CONFERENCE'S means of selecting who plays for a conference championship. We've defied odds before. Just line 'em up!
