Where's the love for Chris Brown?!

Nice to see the best receiving group in the nation has no one on the all Big 12 1st team. That's ok though. Give us a year.

Will someone explain to me how Jon Cooper is Offensive Lineman of the Year in the Big 12 but is only Second Team All Big 12?

Lewis should have been 1st team, brown should have atleast been 2nd team. I wouldnt have had a problem at all with the conf naming SB offensive poy and Colt player of the year. Colt has dont alot with less than we have. Oh well

It doesn't make perfect sense, but related situations happen all the time.

Steve Nash was on the All-Star Second team the year he won MVP.

Congrats Sam! You earned it!

Big 12 second team: Colt McCoy QB Hook 'em

Bob stoops and Mike Leach sharing coach of the year? Something tells me Mack pissed off the big 12.

Coaches can put any variety of players on the team..looks like 14 players are listed other than the ST picks.....I don't see a center on the first team...they have 3 running backs, 6 O-line, 1 qb, 1 TE, and 3 WRs...

13 players on D

Its not the first time for sure

Gresham made it. Okay, he's not a wide receiver, but tight end is still a receiver.

What was really interesting is how dominant the selections were from the South. Hardly anybody from the north until you get to honorable mentions.

It's a bad year in the Big 12 for running backs if Jorvorskie Lane is 2nd team. Dude barely played this year.

They had to give him another award because he ate the first one.

That has to be a pity pick.

Maybe it's like the baseball All Star game where each team/school must have a representative.

Wasn't there a time several years ago when a KSU player was named to the All Big 12 team and hadn't even played one down due to injury?

Don't the fans vote for All-Star selections but the league chooses an MVP? That seems a little different to me than the coaches saying "We think Jon Cooper is the offensive lineman of the year, but we think these 5 guys are better than him."

That sounds familiar. Good memory.

Will this play a roll on the Heisman? How could Sam be first team big 12 and offensive MVP, and be behind colt in the Heisman>??
hehe

How was Cooper offensive lineman of the year, yet 2nd team offense?

Widescreen
12/2/2008, 05:21 PM
No, it won't play a role. Colt could still win the Heisman although I think it's Sam's. The All Big 12 voting has no correlation to the Heisman voting.

I think Cooper got it most likely because he's a senior. I'm not sure the award is indicative exactly of top performance for the year, though he has played extremely well, and not to take anything away from him.

2008 STATS

those stats are more from his coach being an idiot...

i can't believe how loaded the conference is with recievers, the 2nd team WRs are pretty darn good

Bradford is killing everyone in touchdowns and doesn't even have a 1st team WR to throw to

Joe and I are taking the girls down to Miami. Why don't you bring Sara? Doug is trying to sweet talk Lori into letting the two of them go as well.

yeah, I noticed that too. Kinda kills the whole "OU can only get good players from Texas" argument.

Some more choice tidbits:

All-Big 12 Honors Notebook:

Sam Bradford is the third Oklahoma player to be named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. Former Sooners Jason White (2003 and 2004) and Josh Heupel (2000) previously won the award. OU is now tied with Texas for the most Offensive Player of the Year winners in conference history with four.

Bob Stoops was tabbed Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career (2000, 2003, 2006), while Mike Leach was honored for the first time. No other coach has matched Stoops’ four coaching awards in 13 years of Big 12 conference play.

Oklahoma has won the most major awards in the 13-year history of the Big 12 with 23. Texas is next with 20 winners, followed by Kansas State (14), Nebraska (9), Texas Tech (7), Colorado (6), Iowa State (6), Kansas (6) and Missouri (5).
