Fix college football? Get rid of ESPN.

Get rid of the coach's poll. There is no good reason to include them.

Other than that, I have no problems with the system.

Use only the computer polls and go to a 12 team play off.

Whatever they do, don't go with a playoff.

Imagine if we were lined up to go play Texas in Phoenix or something at the beginning of January. Then if we beat Texas (who imo is the 2nd best team), we have to go presumably the next week to play Bama/Florida, probably in Miami. A playoff sounds nice and trendy on paper, but think about the fan support. Not very many people can afford to attend 2 huge bowl games in 2 weeks in 2 different locations. There would be no one there, particularly at the semis. Plus there would be a mess of cancellations, overbooking, etc.

Basketball works because a. the venues are a fraction of the size of football's and b. there are more than 2 teams at each site. Football is very different from basketball, playoffs wouldn't be a good solution.

Go back to the 2003 BCS system where losses, strength of schedule, and quality wins were still a part of the formula. Use it to seed an eight or twelve team playoff.

Use one computer algorithm and publish the algorithm. No human polls. Everyone then knows what is expected of them at the start of the year. They can even receive RSS feeds every time a final score is entered. Fans could set up the program on their own machines and play with the results. That could be a helluva lot of fun.

As for RUTS, if the algorithm says that a Tech victory of 56 points will get them a BCS nod, let them RUTS all they want. It IS expected of them, so the fans of other teams should get off the team's case. If the opposing team doesn't like it, let them do something about it. This is football, not badminton.
