We will likely jump from #5 to #2 in the Colley Matrix computer. Texas will stay #1 in that one. I wouldn't be surprised if Billingsley has OU #1 as well.

I'm basing the Colley info on this post. This guy has a pretty good understanding of numbers and does percentages for each game that are pretty close to Vegas opening lines. The guy is also a Texass fan.

I entered:
Florida beats Florida State
Georgia Tech beats Georgia
Alabama beats Auburn
Kansas beats Missouri
Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State

into the colley playgod feature. last week in the BCS It was
1. TEXAS (10-1) 0.94460
2. ALABAMA (11-0) 0.91600
3. UTAH (12-0) 0.90587
4. FLORIDA (10-1) 0.90217
5. OKLAHOMA (10-1) 0.89398

it spits out
1. TEXAS (10-1) 0.94429
2. OKLAHOMA (11-1) 0.92392
3. FLORIDA (11-1) 0.92107
4. ALABAMA (12-0) 0.91556
5. UTAH (12-0) 0.90634

Note: Texas and Texas Tech games seemingly have NO impact on the ordering.

One thing to take note of is that Florida and Oklahoma were behind Utah (and Texas Tech) in the computers prior to this week. They're both likely to surpass Utah in most of the computers and possibly Texas Tech. Texas had no "hidden" points to make up in the computers. Oklahoma did. My guess is that our BCS rankings tomorrow will be:

1. Alabama
2. Oklahoma
3. Texas
4. Florida
5. Southern Cal

So now the question is how many points do we lose to Texas in the human polls? I'm hoping we pull through big on the computer polls, since I think we'll lose some ground to UT in the human polls. The gist of the articles I'm reading on many of the sports websites aren't looking good for the Sooners. Granted, there are some that favor OU over UT in going to the Big 12 Championship, but there are more that seem to favor UT over OU. Fortunately, the AP poll (comprised by many of these sports writers) isn't a part of the BCS ranking.

Links to the individual websites of each computer ranking can be found at http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/rankings. The Sagarin ranking is the only one that has updated so far.

From the Harris Interactive Poll site:

Poll Methodology and Process
This year, the BCS has again commissioned Harris Interactive to construct a panel of former players, coaches, administrators and current and former media who are committed to ranking the college teams each week during the 2008 college football season. Panelists have been randomly selected from among more than 300 nominations submitted by the conference offices and the independent institutions. The panel has been designed to be a statistically valid representation of all 11 Division I-A conferences and institutions participating in the Bowl Championship Series.
Poll participants will submit their rankings for the Top 25 teams on a weekly basis during the 2008 season, beginning September 28, through December 7. Harris Interactive will release the results of the overall rankings each week. Consistent with the desire of the BCS for transparency, panelists’ names and their individual team rankings for the December 7 poll also will be released.

It's too bad we won't be able to see their votes this week compared to last. I guess these are the people UTerus is trying to plead their case to. If they had OU ahead of them last week, nothing that happened this week should change that, unless Whorn whine has made them insane or they been drinkin too much OVJ!

After looking at how the points in each of the computer polls changed after last week, and then looking at what what realistically could happen this week, OU could very likely be #1 in the computers tomorrow. We will make up ALOT on Texas in the computers. Quite a few voters would have to swing over to the dark side in order for them to stay ahead of us. From checking out what they are saying on hornfans.com, it sounds like alot of them already realize that now that the Sagarin is out. There are already threads over there basically conceding the South and talking about how we will do against Mizzou. I really hope that the voters don't go brain dead...

Since the BCS is broke up in 1/3's, here is how much weight each one really has.

Computer is .0023 of total BCS
Coach's Poll is .0002
Harris is .0001

Therefore it takes 12 Coach's votes to equal a Computer ranking. Of course, it should be obvious, that it takes 23 Harris votes to equal a computer ranking.

I have only plugged in the Sagarin Poll, we are currently 2 Computer Rankings ahead of UT (keeping the other 5 computer's the same as of now). As mentioned above, we should gain more computer strength when you look at it. Worse case scenerio, the other 5 computers don't change, then UT would need 23 Coach's to change their vote or 46 Harris voters. Or a combination of the two.

Again, for each computer rating we move up, it will take another 12 or 23 votes to have UT stay above us. A no brainer is passing Tech in the Wolfe rankings. Before this weekend, Tech was .001 ahead of us. Pretty sure we will pass them.

OK I did some number crunching, making a few assumptions:

Let's assume that the coaches and harris numbers hold sway. Our BCS percentages in those break down like this:
Coaches: .9259 OU, .8984 UT
Harris: .9116 OU, .9042 UT

Remember that to determine the computer percentage that the high and low rank is dropped and the remainder are summed and divided by 100. You get 25 for a #1 ranking, 24 for a #2 ranking and so on.

When you assume that Sagarin has us at 1 and UT at 2. Also assume that the Colley Matrix jumps us to 2 and keeps UT at 1 (as a previous poster said). Also assume in the Wolfe rankings that we are able to jump the .0001 point edge that TT has on us in that computer ranking to move to #3. Assuming NO OTHER CHANGE, this gives the following rankings:

UT: 24, 25, 24, 24, 23, 23
OU: 25, 24, 23, 25, 24, 22

Doing the BCS math gives the percentages:
UT .950
OU .960

That alone gives us enough to jump them ASSUMING HUMAN VOTERS VOTE THE SAME WAY OR DONT GIVE TEXAS ANY MORE LOVE THAN LAST WEEK.

The percentages computed above would produce final BCS point totals of:
UT .9175
OU .9325

The jump in the Sagarin ratings alone cut Texas' lead from 0.00836 to 0.0017.

EDIT: OK, I overwrote the Anderson and Hester ratings from last week with the new Sagarin ratings from this week.

Once corrected, OU now has a 0.00497 lead over Texas.

And since I'm at work where it's dead, I have one Firefox window open will all 5 remaining Computer Rankings and both human poll pages refreshing each every so often.

As another poster wrote, thanks for the post. This bodes very well for us. I cannot see that many voters swinging from them to us. It would take a tidal shift like last week, and I just don't see it happening. With the updated Sagarin and Assuming 1-2 in Colley, no changes in Harris, OU has an extremely slim lead. 0.929 to 0.923 over Texas with my projections on the computers. If as many Harris voters change as did coaches, we may have some trouble.

Just saw on a pretty reliable site that we still have a chance to play UT for the BCS championship, even if Fla wins.

Fla is basically 16 computer rankings behind Tex. I will have to read up and break down the #'s a little bit more. Tex shouldn't drop too much in the computers because they don't play.....

First we have to win though..... :)
