It would've given Stoops an opportunity to beat Fran under his third different team. I wonder if that's ever happened before. And if you count his time at TCU, it would be Fran's fourth school to coach to a loss against OU. I wonder if THAT'S ever happened before.

Plus Pinkel just signed an extension with Missouri so I doubt he's going anywhere this year.

Wyoming is settled. Bowling Green and Miami, OH have now joined the mix, making this year's coaching turnover unprecedented.

Sun-Sentinel.com - Owls lose offensive coordinator Nord to Purdue (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/college/fau/sfl-faunord,0,7163264.story)
By Ted Hutton | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
7:14 PM EST, December 1, 2008

Florida Atlantic is in the market for an offensive coordinator after Purdue hired Gary Nord to take the same position with the Boilermakers.

Nord, 51, had just completed his fifth season with the Owls, the last four as offensive coordinator. Nord also served as quarterbacks coach.

Nord will be rejoining new Purdue coach Danny Hope, who worked with Nord when both were assistants at Louisville from 1985-1994 under Howard that old drunk.

that old drunk, who has been FAU's only coach since the program began in 2001, kept Nord on when he took over at Louisville in 1985.

Nord stayed with that old drunk when he left Louisville for Oklahoma in 1995, but when that old drunk resigned after one year with the Sooners, Nord became an assistant at Pittsburgh and UTEP before being promoted to head coach at UTEP in 2000.

that old drunk hired Nord in 2004 after Nord was forced out of the UTEP job.

"It is with mixed emotion that we send Coach Nord off to his new assignment with the Purdue Boilermakers," that old drunk said in a statement released Monday. "He has made a great impression on our football team and has helped up bring this football program from Division I-AA to a strong Division I-A team. He will be missed."

that old drunk said he will consider candidates from his current staff as well as outside the program for the job, but pledged that FAU's pro-style offense will not change.

"The offense will remain the same as it has been over the years of me being a head coach. We have recruited the quarterbacks to fit this system and the system will stay the same," that old drunk said in his statement.

FAU will be hiring its third offensive coordinator. Larry Seiple was the original coordinator, and when he retired after the 2004 season, Nord was promoted.

FAU still has its original defensive coordinator in Kirk Hoza.

Naming him coach-in-waiting and giving him a pay raise is one thing, it still isn't being the head coach and the money that an Auburn could pay him. He isn't getting 2mil a year like Jason Garrett is with the Cowboys. It might be a bit too tempting to stay for however long Mack wants to stay. I think the whole reason for that was to keep the Syracuse and Iowa States away, I also think Muschamp is a bit smarter than Chiszk and Robinson and jumping at the first job that comes along. Auburn is an entirely different animal, I bet even the Texas brass could understand that.

Seems like Mama Tuberville is singing a different song......

Yahoo Sports - Report: Tuberville’s mom says Auburn fired her son (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-tubervillesmom&prov=ap&type=lgns)
5 hours, 19 minutes ago

AUBURN, Ala. (AP)—Tommy Tuberville’s mother told a newspaper her son was fired as Auburn’s football coach, a claim that runs counter to public statements by the university that Tuberville left on his own.

The Opelika-Auburn News quoted Olive Tuberville as saying her son told her he was dismissed after 10 seasons at Auburn.

“He didn’t resign,” the paper quoted her as saying. “He was fired.”

Reached for comment Monday by The Associated Press, Olive Tuberville wouldn’t say whether the newspaper quoted her correctly. She did confirm talking with a reporter at Tuberville’s house shortly after the coach’s final meeting with Auburn officials last Wednesday.

“I’m sick of this mess. I’m not going discuss it anymore,” she said.

Athletic director Jay Jacobs last week said Tuberville’s departure was completely Tuberville’s decision, and that he and the university president, Jay Gogue, each asked Tuberville to remain.

Jacobs said he and Gogue agreed to give Tuberville the same amount of money that would have been required to terminate his contract through a firing, $5.1 million, because they felt it was “the right thing to do.”

Auburn spokeswoman Deedie Dowdle said Monday the university stands by Jacobs’ statement that Tuberville resigned.

The Opelika-Auburn News reported that Tuberville’s mother said she felt her son was betrayed by Auburn “to a certain extent” after 85 wins and a Southeastern Conference championship.

“This went on too long,” she said. “They had their minds made up days ago, I imagine. It was tough. He didn’t know what to expect. All of his friends have stayed with him.”

Tuberville, 54, has referred to his departure from Auburn as “totally a business decision, what’s best for Auburn.” He said he plans to stay in Auburn and help the school if he can. He has not returned calls for further comment.

His mother said she has been worried about him.

“He’s at an age where something could happen to him,” she told the newspaper. “Heart problems are all through my family. I didn’t want him getting stressed out. This has got to hurt—as much as he’s put into the program and done for the program.”
