View Full Version : Can Bama afford to lose ?

Coud Bama lose to Auburn and still make the title game ? I actually think that is possible since Auburn is a rivalry game. If the game were very close, which it would have to be since Auburn can't score much, and then Bama takes care of Florida, I think they could still get in. But they would need the gators to beat FSU and be rated #1 going into the CCG to make that work.

If Bama loses they drop below OU, UT, and Florida. Beating Florida could cause them to leap Texas, but Florida may also be ranked as low as 3rd and probably will be 3rd in the BCS. But people will give way too much credit to Alabama for the win, and may not want to see an OU/UT rematch. There'll be a strong argument for Alabama to be in the NC if they beat Florida, so they could definitely be in the title game anyways.

Different situation - we lost the CCG. I'm talking about them losing to Auburn and winning the CCG against a likely #1 Florida.

won't matter

the pollsters are going to send the SEC champ unless they have 2 losses if last season is any indication

LOL - LSU sure is trying to sabotage Florida and Bama's strength of schedule :)

Are they playing in Auburn? If so, there is no penalty for losing on the opponent's field given the 41-point handicap.

It's not yet a "written rule" but if you've lost a game or two in triple overtime at home to unranked opponents......u r n.

I get the feeling lots of folk still don't take Bama seriously.
A loss and they are done.

It's hard to say...the media has a woody for Florida so it's possible they overlook Bama's close games and weak schedule and vote them high, but I don't think it will matter much since the Harris and Coaches aren't the media like AP was/is.

Coaches seem fond of Florida too, but I'd think it's a stretch to assume they'd overwhelmingly place Alabama at 3 or even 2 after a win over Florida.

All said...I admit it, I have no idea!

no way. should bama lose to auburn, they'd be done. auburn is a marginally OK team - no where close to being ranked. the game is at bama as well. you simply can't lose to an unranked team at home!!!!

wait....
