View Full Version : STOOPS IN STOOLWATER

It is great to be a Sooner fan, especially this time of the season. It is my fear, though, that many of us are overlooking or maybe taking lightly the task that faces us. OU has travelled to Boone Pickens in the past with the superior team and a championship just out of our reach only to return to Norman with our tails tucked between our legs. We have lofty goals again this year with the Pokes standing between us and a probable trip to KC. We're going into a stadium, although not very big, that will be filled with fans that harbor more hatred for OU than they do love for their own against a team that will be a formidable foe. Let's not get too caught up in the BCS Championship thing about who we'd rather play. I am always optimistic but it is now time to be realistic.

Here's a look at the Sooners under Stoops in Stoolwater:

1998

OSU 41
OU 26

2000

1) OU 12
OSU 7

2002

OSU 38
3)OU 28
This is the game that sticks with me the most. Rashaun Woods running through the OU secondary to the tune of 200+ yards.

2004

2) OU 38
OSU 35

2006

13) OU 27
OSU 21

If we can get an early lead, I think the Pokes will quit. That's all we have to do.

Dear Lord this post has so much wrong in it.

1998: It's pretty tough to affect an OU/OSU game when you're the DC at Florida.

2000: We got a tough win. I think we won the MNC that year, but I don't remember...

2002: Yes, we really did leave Stoolwater that year with our tail between our legs.

2004: AD is still running all over them.

2006: Adarius Bowman's drop.

My point to this thread was to show how close the games have been the past few trips there. That's all.

...and to think: we'd almost all forgotten that those games were close.

Stoops was at Florida in 98 not Kansas state.

we are talking about Big 12 champs all those years, some of them playing and/or winning MNCs and all the games were down to the last play of the game, or us getting plowed. the 2002 game wasn't as close as the 38-28 score

they come to play when we go there

of course, we've been ON FIRE on the road this year. i've never seen us like that under Stoops

The games were also close at A&M and K-State before this year; and last year we had problems on the road, but this team is different, and I don't sense the cockiness some of those other teams had. The osu crowd may be the most quiet of the crowds we faced this year. Washington was loud, KSU was loud, and A&m was loud even though they were getting curb-stomped.

You guys haven't necessarily played any juggernauts on the road.

0-11 Washington
4-7 Baylor
4-7 A&M
5-7 Kansas State

You guys have a really good team but your road opponents haven't been anything to brag about.

traditionally teams who have a huge win at home will struggle big time on the road the following week.

playing boone scares me to death. if the crowd had such a big effect in the win over tech, hopefully stoops will emphasize that those 85k plus a few million more are pulling for them just as hard as last weekend.

the last 7 years we've been so close to playing for it all, only to fall short at the worst time. history says we should lose this game.

games like this are what makes it so hard to win national championships. if we do manage to win, we still have a very eager mizzou team that will do anything they can to build on their recent success.

on top of all that crap, we still need stupid computers to spit out some bs that says we should have a chance to add another crystal ball to our massive trophy case.

it can't be easy, can it?

we found something we didn't have last year, we struggled to move the ball against Iowa State even
