Why was the BCS formed?

In spite of OU.

Uh well, it was, er um to , resolve, er um, predict, oh wait a minute. The purpose of the BCS is to promote, er um. Oh hell I give up.

Oh, you don't remember the bad old day that were much worse. All the big bowls had conference ties and the "champion" was determined by style points from apples to oranges comparisons. "Did USC beat an out-manned Michigan worse than Alabama beat an out-manned Penn St?". Very rare that the top 2 team played each other - it had to be by chance the correct conferences had the right team. Bear Bryant switched the SEC from the Orange to the Sugar bowl because he got tired of playing tough big 8 teams.
So then it became the battle of the independents since they could go anywhere. You had to be one of ND, Miami, Fla st. or Penn St. and then you could travel to the bowl you wanted. It sucked worse.

So the fans would not have to argue over who was really the best team.
We could just settle it on the field.

As a means of breaking a 3-way in the Big 12 South.

To give analysts something to talk about, when they forget why they do their job.

It was meant as a way to include the Pac 10 and Big 10/11 in a possible MNC game.

I got it. The BCS is the cornerstone of the New World Order to bring all forms of games played with balls together. :P

See post #4. It was mythical in those days.

The BCS is the answer to biased coaches/ media in the parts of the country that control media...Which were constantly screwin anyone not living within 100 miles of the ocean...So computers were brought into play to take the human fractor out of the game...And yet still if a coach wants to vote OU 99th in the country this next week to F-up the system they can.....so basically it has marginally improved the old system.

At least there IS a championship game. It's goofy, but better than the old way.

There could easily be another split championship with the AP Poll and the BCS...

+ 1 game is the answer... would it be perfect hell no- but then it would at least play the top 4 teams in a playoff... that would work 99% of the time...

It WAS created to determine, in an un-biased way, who should meet in a national championship game.

However, due to some inconceivable and unanticipated glitches in which OU was allowed to compete for the MNC, the formula was redesigned several times to take the unbiased part out, allowing the media to decide who they want to see the most.

To eliminate emotion and faulty reasoning from the process. Then add back in the Faulty without the reasoning and thus enhancing the emotions, particularly aggravation.:hot:
