Wilson was a significant upgrade over Long. Chuck Long is an excellent QB coach but was in over his head as an OC.

I think the first time I realized how good Wilson could be was a couple of years ago against OSU when he recognized that the officials had put the ball on the wrong hash but OSU lined up as if the ball was on the correct hash. So to exploit that, he called a particular play to AD that went 70+ to the house.

What makes this weird...

Chuck Long is out as San Diego State's football coach.

Senior Associate Athletic Director Don Oberhelman announced the move at a campus news conference today. Long just finished the third season of a five-year contract, worth more than $700,000 annually. He finished with a three-year record of 9-27.

To meet the obligations of his contract after firing him, SDSU must pay Long for two more years. But SDSU President Stephen Weber said Sunday that the university raised more than $1 million from private donors to pay off Long's contract. He said state money would not be used.

SDSU has more financial room breathing room to do that now after a $160 annual student fee increase was recommended Friday by a campus advisory committeee.

That will provide an extra $4.5 annually for an athletic department that had been strapped in large part because of deepening football revenue shortfalls. SDSU also will gain about $500,000 from Utah's likely berth in a Bowl Championship Series game.

Is this...LOL

Long received a vote of confidence from Athletic Director Jeff Schemmel last month to oversee the program through 2009.

First former Stoops' assistant to get the axe. Where does CL land? In the desert, with Bro Mike? With KU?

In all Fairness To Chuck Long he took over a program that had hired a JC Coach 'Tom Kraft" Before he got there ----The program was in horrible shape before Chuck landed in San Diego -- Chuck should have waited for a Job like Kansas State --- But Glad he didn't ---- :)

Kevin Wilson Give him More $$$$$ - I love this Coach...!!!

I agree Blues . That Program was a Bigger cluster **** than what Mike took On in the desert.
SDSU had reduced Schollies . and academic prob . Chuck went a Long way towards cleaning it up .
I personally believe they should Have let Him coach out his Contract .And see were they wind up then .
