that our crowd won't be crazy. And ESPN showed some clips of our fans just sitting on their arses.

Not only that, but he said Texas Tech's fans are louder.

I was surprised at how loud Texas Tech's fans were last year when we played them down there. I'm fairly certain it wasn't louder than our loudest moments here (Nebraska 2000, OSU 2003), but it was pretty loud for most of that game.

No, it's not typical "crap." If Musberger's one of the best, that isn't saying much about any of them. Come to think of it...I can't stand nearly all of 'em. I like Bob Costas but he hardly does any play by play.

I have to tell you I usually turn the audio way down on games, just 'cause I can't stand the majority of sportscasters. I do think the guy that does the Fox casts -- Joel...something -- isn't bad. Though Dave "Nod your head" Lapham drives me nuts.

Brent is one of the best in the business, that's why he has been doing big games for decades. I know some people don't like his style, but whatever, I think he makes the game more exciting and the "You are looking live....!" gives me chills if its a big game. To answer an earlier post, no he didn't do the Mizzou game here last season, that one was on FSN.

As for the crowd thing, the lack of noise is a product of our own success. We don't need to be loud because we blow the majority of the teams out. Now, when it's been a big game/big moment (Tech in 06, Miami and Mizzou last year) we step up and get the Gay rockin. But most of the time it's 21-3 at the end of the first quarter and theres no need to get SEC loud. There's a Facebook group called "Loudest Crowd Ever at Owen Field" and I don't think we need to worry about the students. Let's just hope the rest of the stadium follows suit. Obviously the fact that it's a nationally televised night game with national title implications will get all fans even more amped up. Boomer!

boomersooner28

There should easily be 45,000 there for the game Saturday night. Don't know if that'll be enough to get very loud.

I'll run the risk of getting negged here but what is the deal with the fans? Based on how great the OU program has been the fans should (and have justification) to be crazy. As I've indicated before, I live in the midst of SEC country and its fans are rabid no matter how good or bad their team is. I think it does make a difference even if it's a perception of how tough your home field advantage is.

Collier11
11/21/2008, 09:32 PM
You are absolutely right, it is a mindset. First of all, I would put money on it that in the SEC you cant be kicked out or told to sit down if you are standing. We have those who feel entitled for whatever reason to do what they want at a game cus it is "their money", well it is a football game. Fans are there to support the team and cheer, some of you say that you can cheer just the same by sitting down which is fine, but thats not the point. When you stand up, jump around if you choose, cheer the entire game, get into the game, it makes a difference. Boz was on the radio talking about how much better OU fans used to be at OU and how the fans when he played made a diff in the home games. We need to get back to that. There is no reason for anyone to sit down tommorrow night!

We really don't have that many "big games" in Norman !

I hear a lot of folks here bragging about OU's home record under Stoops, but our biggest game every year is at a neutral site. If this was home and home, what would the home record be ? Other than Mizzou, who have we played in Norman ?

Miami, last night showed just how down they are.
Alabama in '02, they weren't nothing compared to the tide these days.
UCLA ?, They still play football ?

Our non-conference home games since 2000, not exactly impressive ! A few big names, but most of them were in down times for their programs.

I don't know who goes to our games, I guess. Every single game I have attended which is about 4 a year and sometimes a bowl or Big 12 Champhionship game, I have HAD to stand if I wanted to see the game.
The only time anyone has sat down around me is during a timeout and during the halftime. No one has ever told me to sit down. Due to work, I have not gone to any games this year. What is going on now?

I was agreeing with Musberger's comment that Tech is a loud place to play (lately) but disagreeing with his comment that they are louder than we are/can be.

When it comes to big games, Owen Field can get loud. Really loud. Is it partly because we have more fans? Absolutely. But it's also because we have fans that will get loud when they need to. They just don't need to very often.

I'm not a big Brent Musburger fan, but that's beside the point. We, the fans, need to show up better than we ever have tomorrow. The fact is that we do have our moments, but we are not a consistently loud fan base. As dedicated as the Sooner Nation is Norman should be the scariest place in college football.

No, but you seem to know more than the folks who have seen Brent Musburger be a mainstay on sports television for over 30 years. I'll get him in contact with you so he can find out to improve.

30 years in, he is the play by play man for the main game in college football every week...so executives, advertisers and most of America disagrees with you.

Let me guess. ESPN sucks, too.

Could be dangerous situation - if we get down, it's easy to clam up - especially when it's a cold night. People want to sit down and huddle up to try to keep warm. We need everyone to be drunk as Cooter Brown and take their shirts off. No matter how old, fat, and ugly you are. Especially that 80 year old granny on the 50.
