A settlement in the case would present a significant obstacle for the NCAA investigation.
How is that possible. Wouldn't a settlement basically verify guilt or innocence?

No, settlements are not adjudicative in that way. If it goes to trial, a lot of things become public. If they settle privately, then a lot of info remains difficult for the NCAA to get.

My guess is that at some point a USC benefactor/alumni quietly pays for this to go away and be subject to a confidential settlement agreement. I guarantee Lake cares about the money; not dragging USC through the mud. Oh well.

Again, if nothing comes of this, it sets the stage for how to successfully stonewall the NCAA. They'll never be able to punish any university again.
I can't decide if I hate usc or if I am proud they figured out how to screw the NCAA.
It's both, really.
