EXACTLY!!! ;)

Today on sports talk here in Austin on 1530am ESPN the local guys were doing a "round table" gig and the one that picked Tech decided Tech was gonna win because last night when he turned on his TV the first thing he saw was something on Black Beard. Had that on the brain when I saw this news article.

I may get ripped good for saying this but.. How much White has Sam got in him ? A bunch more than Indian.. Why should people make a big deal out of the fact Sam has a T I N Y amount of Cherokee blood ? Answer : They shouldn't...

I see but what I am asking is WHY does the Cherokee nation want to make a big deal out of it ? Sam is not a full blood or even anywhere close.. Sam has VERY LITTLE indian blood VERY LITTLE...

Sam is 1/16 Cherokee... however, he was 1/2 Sooner even before he stepped on the field as his dad was an o-lineman in the 70s... and since no women have ever played OU football, 1/2 is as good as full :)

The same can be said for Native blood, where many are 1/2 or less... more often 1/16... 1/32. It doesn't matter what the percentage is, you're proud of your heritage.

Four big goals for the Sooners: keep Crabtree from being a factor (that may be two or three factors by itself); make sure Harrell has a bad night between pressure and turnovers; no special teams breakdowns; and score as many times as possible, in any way possible.

In a lot of ways, this game reminds me of the 1971 Nebraska-OU game. Crabtree is Johnny Rodgers; Harrell is Jerry Tagge. We've got an awesome offense and an adequate defense. It's late November....I dunno. Sure seems like deja vu, to me.

Let's not have a similar result.

I know we can win this game. It strikes me as funny that the higher-ranked team comes into Norman and somehow THEY'RE the underdog. It's the Fiasco Bowl all over again with Bozo State.

Texas' safety doesn't drop a deflected pass that he had RIGHT IN HIS HANDS...or Crabtree doesn't make a great catch...or the safety doesn't just whiz by him...I think Texas wins that game in Lubbock. Tech is good, but they also got lucky, in my book. Crabtree has got to be a prime target of our defense, with Harrell a close number two. Crabtree worries me more than Harrell does. Harrell's getting all the ink, maybe because he's a senior, but Crabtree is the gamechanger.

That said...I sure hope we put a beatin' on 'em...but I'll settle for a one-point win.

I understand the one half Sooner part although I think Sam was ALL Sooner before he came to OU in his heart.. I have never heard Sam say anything about his indian heritage.. He is O N L Y 1/16th.. That is a FAR CRY from saying someone IS INDIAN.. Anyway, I will stop posting on this subject that's all I have to say.. Sam is a Sooner and I am proud of him and I would be just as proud of him no matter what color or race he happened to be..

Hey 'cv': Add 'establish a running game' and 'protect Sam from the pass rush' to your list; statistically they are right up there with us in the pass rush column, and i'm a little unsure of Sam's ability to scramble then make a play when the called play breaks down;

I guess my bigger concerns follow our defensive shortcomings rather than our offensive ones...admittedly, there are few. Sam is a way better scrambler than Harrell, and the return of Eldridge can only help our running game. I really kinda like the fact that all the attention has been paid to Tech for this game and not us, so much. Bob Stoops' Sooners play much better with a chip on their shoulders.

The biggest difference I see between Stoops' and Switzer's teams is Bob's teams don't handle success as well as Barry's did....though even the King's teams could lay an egg, too. But as a general rule, in recent big games, Switzer's teams handle it better. I will say I think Stoops has done a pretty good job getting his troops ready for this game. Wondering why fans at Owen Field aren't louder was a master stroke of genius.

I think the media share has been pretty even. You feel its mostly favoring Tech?

I agree that the Sooners play better with a chip on their shoulder.

Just glancing through it all...google texas tech oklahoma and of the 481 news articles that come up...it's slanted a bit more towards Tech. Now, granted, they're kinda the unknown here...and sports media loves a Cinderella story, and we get to be the bad guy (again)...there are four possible outcomes and I don't like the fallout of any of them.

We blow them out: Of course. You're Okahoma and it was at home.

They blow us out: Overrated. Small-game Bob.

We squeak by: Wow, Tech is really good to hang with the mighty Sooners.

Tech squeaks by: Two evenly matched teams, but Tech was the better team.

I mean, really, there are only four possible outcomes. We win the game in half of those, and I'll take the W. and live with the PR problems later. :-)

I think tech is getting more hype because this is their 3rd big game in a row stretched over 4 weeks. And they are unbeaten and they are Cinderella, so it's pretty easy to understand. OU has been given loads of hype this week, but were low-key playing 4 inferior teams in a row coming into this one. If we can manage to win tomorrow, we get another week and TT goes to the back page. I love all the TT hype; I think the chip on the shoulder really does make a difference.
