View Full Version : A Quick Question

A friend of mine thinks that if the game is close and we win the field will get rushed.

Do you think it will happen?

I mean I am not apposed to rushing the field. I have never done it so I think it would be pretty damn fun.

This is the biggest game in Nompton since 2000 Nebraska so...yes...no maybe?

Should I even be talking about this!

I hope not. We should expect to win this game. That what good established programs do. They win games.

I tell my baseball kids that all the time.

No way in hell.

Like I said before:

Rushing the field = winning a game you didn't think you'd win

I agree with your intent and with your direction to the baseball kids. My adjustment would be that OU HAS been there before. There doesn't need to be any acting.

You know what I meant. We have been there before, so act like it.

How 'bout taking off your clothes and pretending you're streaking? No one will know you're really rushing the field.

Was thinking about this last week. We won't run on the field even if we get a field goal to win as time expires.

I agree.

It shrieks "OMG we secretly didn't really believe we're good enough to win but by some miracle we pulled it out!"

True OU fans know it is not a miracle if we win. We have been there before.

That being said, Owen Field was rushed during the 2000 season, but then, we'd had a very long dry spell.

So I'm either very understanding or a total hypocrite. :)

Even if we win by a clock-expiring field goal we have no reason to rush the field for the reasons stated. Also, we will have unfinished business in Stoolwater and KC. Just win and go to the next one.

By my count there are about 12 Sooner fans in this thread so far who do not plan to rush the field. Unfortunately that leaves about 82,200 fans there who may or may not agree.

I hope not though. I hope by the time the game ends we have been so far ahead for so long, that it's been a foregone conclusion for about 2 1/2 quarters.

I won't rush the field.. so make it 13. However I can't promise you that I won't rush my back yard up here in Pittsburgh waiving my OU flag and jumping around in a liquor induced uphoria. ;)

Relatively speaking, we have a tiny student section.

According to most, as stated in other posts, our crowd is a bunch of oldsters.

Therefore, if the rest of the fanbase wants to rush the field, they better start now.

"Rush" isn't really the right word. Maybe it should read, "wants to slowly take the field, they better start now."

I am gonna buck the trend here. I totally understand where everyone is coming from and I actually DO agree and think that we are a big bad program that shouldn't get overly excited about a win over Tech.

That being said, if the game is a nail biter and the crowd rushes the field GREAT! Our football team has lost some kind of edge lately. The need to feel proud of their accomplishments and a swarm of fans can give you that feeling of invincibility. Tech IS ranked #2 and they ARE good this year. It might be an exciting win for us. The more emotion the better.

No way do we rush the field under any circumstance for this game. That is only for bad teams who get major upsets.

We should not have rushed it in 2000 Nebraska either IMO.

This thread reminds me - I was watching the end of the CU/ISU game a couple of weeks ago. CU almost blew the game by letting ISU drive the field at the end, but ISU was better at blowing the game by messing up their last series inside the 10. When time ran out, the security staff lowered the goal posts !! It cracked me up - 2 of the worst north teams duking it out in a bad game and they worry about the goal posts. There were other games on, so I didn't stay on channel to see if the crowd came onto the field. I hope CU hasn't sunk that low ;)

In any case, this game will not be close so I think that the question is moot.

I think the better bet would be the TT fans rushing the field (win or lose). Those folks will rush a field anytime anywhere. I think they did it when they won the coin toss a few weeks ago.

This kind of attitude got me escorted off the field and almost arrested for "inciting a riot" in '99.

This would be like SUC or the whorns rushing the field. I hate both of them, but they're both good programs. I don't see their fans ever rushing the field. You see fans rushing the field in the swamp? No. That's for a good reason.

In order for us to rush the field, we'd need to be having a Baylor-esque season and be playing a top-10 team.

No team ranked in the top 10 should have their fans rush the field. Period. The only exception is a typically mediocre/terrible team that is having an exceptional season and is playing for all the marbles (i.e. Tech v. Texas)

I understand the feeling that rushing the field is kind of aggyish....at the same time it's kind of sad that our players have never experienced the feeling of the stadium emptying onto the field in a frenzy of love for their team.

Think about it....
