Willie Warren seems to be what we've been missing since Brewer--a guard who can just take it to the rack and score.

King Crimson

that would make it a two sport sweep for MSU over CU, counting two season's ago in football. CU only has about 5 legit D-1 players on the roster.

1- What does the crowd look like,

3- Any notable player stats?

Thanks! :D

whomever curry is on needs to take the ball right at him for the first 5 minutes of the second half and draw #4 on him. keep his *** on the bench.
AJ sat the last 13 or so minutes of the half so hopefully he will be ready to go in the Second half.

Curry is unfreakinbeleavable

Crowd is good, not great but good.

Davidson is good and definitley deserves their ranking.

Warren is doing great with 14 points and looked good from 3-point land.
Taylor is playing great on the weak side getting garbage and good looks as they double and triple team Blake.
Blake has 11 rebounds but only 4 first half points.

TG, BG and AJ all with 2 fouls for OU.
Curry and Gosselin for DU with 3 and 2 fouls respectively.

I am loving this. Willie Warren is a great addition. Our team just looks like they are playing with a new intensity this year. We can actually push the ball down the court and score. We can run and we can slow it down and pound it in the paint. I am really excited about this season. I will definitely be buying some tickets this season. I was never a big basketball fan, but I love supporting our guys. I have been gradually becoming a rabid OU bball fan.

That was some pretty irresponsible commentary tonight. Calling an obvious forearm shiver "okay" and the no-call by the ref a "good move" is terrible. What kind of message does that send to anyone participating in competitive play? That it is okay to commit fouls if you think the last one was a bad call? And the no-call was just as bad. In fact, the whole concept of a no-call is awful and any commentator who brings it up should be fired immediately.

1. They shot really well from the line.
2. We actually ran with the ball and pushed it down the court.
3. When the lead was gone and it became a close game, they didn't panic.

We looked like an elite basketball program tonight. We have great athletes at all positions. We play smart, and we play hard. I am very pleased with Capel and the players. I am totally behind Capel. We are good outside, down in the paint, running the court, on the line, etc. We are the most complete basketball team I have seen in Norman in a while. Fran Chinchilla was taking that to a whole other level and talking them up and the Sooners down at every opportunity. It's funny though, when OU was up by 16+ ole Frannie was suddenly lauding praise on all things Sooner. That didn't last long when DU made the great come back to get within three.

When one team gets up by 16, it's NORMAL for a commentator to heap praise on them.

Then, when the other team makes a run, it's NORMAL for the commentator to heap praise on the team that just rallied.

I suppose we're only happy when they praise us for getting a big lead and then act like nothing's happening when the other team rallies.

i'd like to qualify my remarks about Fran thusly. i don't like him when he does any games. i know others have come to like him over the years as the Big XII guy. i don't like him. he's incredibly repetitive (which means he doesn't really do his homework (not as bad as Majerus, but close))...also, there is nothing i hate more than the continual hunt for "the next Gonzaga" and "Cinderella" crap the NCAA/ESPN have decided to "brand" all of college hoops with as the dominant narrative....so, for me, more of Fran and more of the Little Engine that could (when the LE nearly beat the reigning national champs) is too much for me.

The thing is, those were the only two times I noticed that he was announcing NORMALLY. Beyond that he was praising the officiating when it should not have been, that went both ways but mostly when it had anything to do with a foul involving Curry. His input always sounded pro-Davidson/Curry and very anti-Sooner.

In the future I will rely on the local radio broadcast for my audio if he is doing the game. That way I can get my NORMAL biased Sooner commentary during a home game.

Well I don't think Fran's great by any stretch of the imagination...and I haven't heard any of the commentary from this game since I was lucky enough to be there. If he was praising the officiating, he must've been seeing something drastically different than me.

I just understand that it's natural for the commentators to not be quite as excited about OU as I am and probably a little more excited about our opponent than I am. That's what makes me a fan and them a commentator. I don't think it makes them bad or biased...they just see things from an understandably different perspective. I don't think it's unreasonable to want to listen to someone who pulls for your team...like our radio team or when the games are broadcast locally on KSBI or whatever...but I don't expect that kinda stuff when it's on ESPN. I expect to hear some stuff I like and some stuff that, although probably true, I'd rather not admit or hear.

I'm just glad that the arrival of basketball season means that we're almost done listening to Rod "That's Why He's a Defensive Back" Gilmore and Chris "You Gotta Bring Your Feet" Spielman.

He LOVED the officiating in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. "These refs are getting control of this very physical game. Great job...."

In all fairness, Fran did criticize them when Curry got trapped at midcourt, committed an over and back violation (which no one seems to have noticed for some reason), pushed our guy down with his forearm (like he did all night) and took a jumper. Yes. Most ever by an opponent. First guy to score 40 on us in Norman since Marcus Moody of Memphis in '97.

And yes, Brent Price's 56 remains untouched as the LNC record. Wayman had 61 against UT-San Antonio, but it was at the Myriad in the All-College.

I kinda fast forwarded through the DVR last night. You're right...he was in love with it. That's just dumb. I mean, he's entitled to think it's good, but it's not like it was an overly physical game that the refs NEEDED to take control of.

The Curry push off was ridiculous. How do you let that go in a game where you're calling everything else including, but not limited to, 3 seconds in the lane and delay of game?! (Come on...delay of game?!) But I don't think it was an over-and-back. Watching it during the game I didn't even notice it being close, but on the DVR I saw that he did come close to stepping over. But it's the ball that has to cross back over, not just the feet. I'm not even sure that the feet DID cross back over, but I'm almost positive the ball didn't.

Y'all are right, though...it was a great game. Glad to see us overcome Willie's foul trouble and our turnovers. Impressive to see Davidson keep us within range despite Curry's foul trouble.

We saw three outstanding performances by great scorers last night. Willie was pretty much keeping up with Curry until he had to sit for most of the 2nd half. The difference in the game was our role players and depth. Taylor had a great game. Great team defense. Curry's going to get his points, but we really limited the rest of the team. I remember Lovedale being a big part of their tourney success last year but Wright and the Griffins kept him pinned down pretty well.

What was the attendance last night? I was impressed to see the crowd cheering when AJ was holding his own against Curry on a few possessions.

Crowd seems loud and it looked like it was semi full but when they showed the teams huddle you could see some empty seats.

Again about AJ, as much as people bag him he is a hard working player and obviously the best perimeter defensive player on the team. w/o him this team just isn't as good.

oumartin
11/19/2008, 02:09 PM
and one more thing.

OU had two scoring droughts. One to end the first half then when they went on their little run in the second half; yet this team scored 82 points.

I remember being all excited scoring over 50 when we had a scoring drought in past years. This team can avoid a drought or two they will run some good teams out of the gym.

.

Im no expert but I always thought that if both feet and the ball are completely in the front court, and THEN any part of your body or the ball touches the back-court, then it is an over and back violation. I'm having a hard time finding the exact rule online, but this has always been my understanding after playing HS bball and watching countless NCAA games.

I just went back to the DVR and both feet and the ball were clearly completely across the line, he then moved his right foot into the backcourt. I think it should have been a violation if not an obvious foul.
