It's got to be that ESPN on ABC bit, there's no way it's just on Cable...

Yay...another way for ESPN to pimp the SEC...

The same network that ruined college basketball by forcing Dick Vitale and all things ACC down our throat will now do the same thing with Herbstreit and SEC football.

Dang, I remember when College Gameday used to be watchable (ie - all football, no football politics). It will get even worse now.

The article does not talk about how many people see ABC, but about how many homes get ESPN today and when they take over broadcasting the BCS games. So, in my mind, it will be something you have to pay to see on ESPN and not free on ABC. I guess time will only tell forsure.

If ESPN gets the contract, which it looks like it will, that will push a possible playoff scenario back at least another 4 years.

If a play off will generate more money, then we will have a play off plan.

Not to mention how much ESPN loves the notion of being exclusive. They will extend that contract once it is close to the end, at all costs, I'm sure.

Playoff = more postseason games = more ad revenue = more money

The hard part is pulling college presidents away from their guaranteed $100 million teat for the chance to suckle a $500 million teat. Every other excuse (academics, fan travel, etc.) is pure bunk.

it might be more money for the NCAA but i don't see how the average college makes more money

First off, the money paid to each college certainly would not decrease. With the extra games of a playoff, those schools and their conferences (such as the Big 12 dividing bowl money) should get a boat of money for playing those extra games.....kind of like the extra cash each school gets in March Madness for making it to the next round.

One thing is for sure, the BCS has made only 2 bowl games relevant each year......the NC game and the one your team is playing in. I can't imagine the awesomeness of 3 weeks consisting of 4 playoff games, 2 playoff games and the NC game.
