Are they gonna be naming the stadium at Texas A&M after him soon?

He becomes a better coach every season to those fans!

They gotta feel about him like OU fans did about Gary Gibbs in 1998!

I still feel bad for Gibbs.

I liked the guy.

At least Gibbs is still in the football world.

I half expected Slocum to die right after he was fired.

By the ways the Aggies are talking about him, it's like they won more championships than Bammer did under ol' RC :D

aggies and huskers are(were) getting exactly what they deserve after firing slocum and solich for no apparent reason

What's even more ironic, aTm also balked at bringing aboard Gibbs as a DC under Franchiminny. He wanted too much guarenteed money, which I would have also demanded on that sinking ship.

I've been very happy to see Gibbs' continued success as a coach. He certainly paid his dues in coaching.

RC Slocum at TAMU....

1989 (8-4)
1990 (9-3-1) won Holiday Bowl
1991 (10-2) SWC Champions
1992 (12-1) SWC Champions
1993 (10-2) SWC Champions (OU drilled them that year)
1994 (10-0-1) Probation
1995 (9-3) won Alamo Bowl
1996 (6-6)
1997 (9-4) XII South Champs
1998 (11-3) XII Champions; ruined KSU's NC season
1999 (8-4)
2000 (7-5)
2001 (8-4) won galleryfurniture.com Bowl
2002 (6-6)......included a win over then #1 OU.....end result= FIRED

Granted the Aggies were struggling his last few years but hell, he did enough to compete with the likes of Texas, Nebraska and Kansas State when they were doing well. He is the #1 Aggies coach of all time despite not winning a national title.

Coaches always get better the longer they are gone..cept for Blake

Seems like just yesterday I posted something like this

The reasons RC's teams were struggling his last few years is because OU & UTerus were becoming elite teams. They were stockpiling recruits and TEXA&M was coming in 3rd on a lot of guys. But they still got plenty of talent and beat OU in 02. Great thread and great input guys.

Under Fran, kinda ... RC didn;t really like Fran ... right now, no ... Sherman is an RC guy and RC has alot of love for A&M. He has been with Texas A&M in some capacity since he was hired in 1972 as a WR coach (except for one season ... 1981 ... as DC at USC). He has alot of ties and love for A&M.

Yeah ... we lost to Tech and Missouri in overtime, Nebraska and Oklahoma St. by less than a TD and Virginia Tech by 10. Texas blew us out, but we were a demorilazed bunch by then. We beat Pitt and, of course, you all (as well as Kansas, Baylor, and ULaLa.

We were competitve ... which is such a far cry from today.

no beating Texas.

FIRED!!!

bet they'd love to have a coach that can beat Texas right now.

Fixed for truthiness factor. That's why RC got fired and a really stupid reason at that - he couldn't beat the team they poke at throughout their school song.

And because they are a fanbase of the "here and now" as evidenced by their rage at losing and their desire to rid themselves of Fran Fran and RC at those respective times, they would probably hire the devil himself TODAY if it assured them a victory over Texas once again.

:P Something to think about if you're still upset over the Dallas loss... it could be far worse. We could be Texas A&M.

PS: Not referring to you Mac, you seem cool. It's some of the other guys you have in Aggieland that seem fickle.

You would think after watching what OU went through during the 90s that colleges would be a little more careful about firing winning coached. You paying attention A&M and Nebraska?

RC's run at A&M was clearly over when he got canned. Would he have kept them competitive at just above .500? Yes, but they would never have competed for the Big 12 again. The aggies' problem was doing the same thing that OU, Nebraska and many others have done, they couldn't hire a coach better than the one they fired.

A&M has everything a college program could ever ask for and there are PLENTY of recruits within a tank of gas of collie station to keep them rolling. Then again, finding a good coach isn't that easy and sometimes requires the kissing of a few frogs as every school has discovered at some point in time.

These guys beat Texas the past two years and went to Holiday and Alamo bowls. My, what a difference a year makes. It's not like they were going backwards or anything --- didn't their fans say a few years ago that they were like 10 points away from being undefeated or something???

If only Fran Fran didn't sellout insider info :D

I think it has more to do with Fran (again) getting us humiliated on national TV with a really lame game plan at Miami ... any wonder the whole Frangate e-mail scandal broke right AFTER we were humiliated by the Canes. ;)

The pattern continues...long-time beloved coach leaves....successor does okay, but no championships......next successor stinks it up so badly, everyone agrees to swallow their pride and start all over with young fresh blood. OU went through it, Nebbish is going through it, now A&M is going through it. Texas even went a version of it in the Royal-Akers-McWilliams/Mackovick-Brown saga.
