If he is part of the media, they have to talk for a living. They have to say something.

Mark Rodgers comes across the radio as an arrogant prick. He may have a good reason this year, more than most, for picking aggy, but frankly he is dog poo on my shoe to me.

:D I would wait to see how OU plays Tech and how OSU plays Bye before choosing the next game down the line.

OH! and next season already?! Well, sir, do you know who all the Big 12 teams are retaining (aka NOT leaving for the NFL draft or transferring) or gaining through recruitment/transfers? How bout coaches? Are they staying or going to other jobs, or just getting fired or retiring?

:P Mark has a crystal ball.

When Mark looks in the mirror he sees 2 checks and a crack that goes vertical. And, he's not much of a talk show personality.

sometimes i think mark tries too hard to be controversial. last week he stood there stone cold faced and said that OSU has a better offense than OU. not really sure how anyone could watch football and come to that conclusion...

He's just trying to stir the pot after OU fired his azzz. To rub it in, they replaced him with Trent Smith.

I still think OSU will beat us.....I hope I'm wrong and look like a freaking idiot on this but I see beating Tech and getting in Stillwater.

Exactly--but even that was his own fault. He was one of the main ones saying the BRS/I deal was more than 2 guys, hinting at much worse and predicting near death penalty but never giving any facts or evidence to back it up. OU got tired of it and used the new media contracts to throw his arse off the sideline.

Picking OSU in next week's game isn't all that strange. They ALWAYS play us tough in Stillwater, even when they suck and we're on our way to a national title. The fact that they're actually pretty good this year makes his pick pretty reasonable.

Now as for next year...it's a little early to tell.

Frankly, as the NBA takes hold in OKC, I expect a great deal of the local "talent" to be replaced by quality major league caliber guys. For example, Bob Carpenter on the OU basketball games shows how good things could be around here.

What will save local media personalities is that television viewers like familiar faces, research has shown. This is why it is so important to establish yourself in a market and have as much face time as possible so that the connection can be made and thus, job security.

What will not save local media personalities is the OKC market's desire to be "big league," and thus, big league names will start getting thrown into the mix within the next 10-15 years. Hornets/Thunder fan favorites will retire and may choose to live and work in OKC the rest of their lives and if so, will likely get a desired sports position in the OKC market. Back in Green Bay, former and current Packers were highly desired by local media for sports features. I could see the same thing happening here with the Thunder (and even the Hornets with a few guys).

Of course, none of this applies if...

a) You are female
b) You lack speaking ability
c) You lack charisma

Females age out of television (sad truth to colleagues that have invested a lot in appearance), so many current athletes can't seem to string a few sentences together without adding "You know" every other word, and natural charisma goes a long way.

Right now, I have decided that I will not even watch Bedlam this year until it is over. DVR it, find out the result, then watch in glee or click delete based on the result. Sorry guys, I gotta bad feeling about our D in Stoolwater and can't stand the stinky orange wannabes cheering against us in their bi-annual bowl game.

The osu pick isn't that crazy, the game is in Stoolwater! The whole O-Line is gone next year! I think next year this team will be better than this years, the D should be great!!! I think next year we will win OUr 2nd BCS Title in two years!!!! :D

1) OSU has played us extreeeemely close at OSU the last eight years:

2000 - 12-7 W
2002 - 38-28 L
2004 - 38-35 W
2006 - 27-22 W

Not a stretch to call for the upset this year.

2) OSU returns nearly everyone except two offensive linemen and a TE on offense, and I believe they only lose two or three starters on defense. To say they'll be good next year is no stretch since they'll play basically the same schedule next year.

2004 - 38-35 W
2006 - 27-22 W

Not a stretch to call for the upset this year.

In each of those 4 games we were ranked in the Top 11 and OSU was unranked. And while you may have just intend to show the Stoops era, this extends back through the Blake and Gibbs years and even into the Switzer days too.

1998 - 41-26 L
1996 - 27-17 W
1994 - 33-14 W
1992 - 15-15 T
1990 - 31-17 W (we were ranked, they weren't)
1988 - 31-28 W (both teams ranked)
1985 - 13-0 W (we were #1, they were unranked)
1983 - 21-20 W

Our largest margin of victory over the past 25 years in Stillwater has been 19 points. The average score is 25-21.

You have to go back to 1979 & 1981 to find two consecutive times that we beat OSU convincingly in Stillwater (38-7 in 79 and 27-3 in 81).

I agree with Rodgers. I hope our team has proper fear in them, too, with the vision of what can happen. I see the game is set for ABC on the 29th. The time is not set yet. I think a 2:30 game is better for us than a 7:00 game. Actual sunlight. More sober fans.
