View Full Version : Tulsa at Planet Hooston
Starting now-ish on CBS College Sports. I will never not love the CBS NCAA theme music.
Dan Fouts is doing color for this game. Really? I guess that "trying him out as a play-by-play announcer" experiment on ABC failed hard. :D
Dan Fouts' keys of the game for Tulsa (and I am NOT making this up):
Offense - Live on Tulsa Time.
Defense - Bag a Cougar.
This just in: Dan Fouts is drunk as hell. :D
Tulsa took the opening kickoff and drove to the Houston 37 before stalling, then ran a fake punt that less than worked. Houston ball at the TU 37.
Go Coogs!
First of many touchdowns that will be scored tonight.
7-0 UH
"Hindsight is always 100-100, right?"
Dan Fouts is the Sarah Palin of sports broadcasters. :D
Houston now has as many points as they scored the entire game last year.

did you go to Tulsa?
No, I'm barely smart enough, but way too poor. I'm a midtown Tulsa guy, tho. That's close enough. :D

I hear ya
'Cane has the ball out across midfield again. Tarrion Adams is my power animal.

Sounds uneducated to me! By alllll!:D
Holy f*ck, David Johnson just did a flip on a hit down near the Houston 2 yard line. Now it's fourth and goal after two runs got stuffed.
Awesome stand by Houston right there.
Tulsa is now 0-2 on fourth down conversions. KICKING IS FOR PUSSIES! :D
Wow, TU just got screwed out of a safety on second down. Mmmm, home cookin'!
AND a sideline interference penalty on Tulsa. Gah.
Holy f*cking sh*t, Houston just got a 70-yard punt from their own end zone. Dag.
This should sum up the game thus far: David Johnson scrambles down to the Coog 45 and then fumbles it away.
Houston has first and goal inside the Tulsa 5 once again.
And they score. Seriously, the Coog that caught the pass couldn't have been any more alone if he was the Omega Man.
14-0, Houston.

whats up with TU the last couple games.. that offense is sputtering
Well, against Arkiesaw it took them a while to adjust to the vaunted SEC talent. Tonight they're moving the ball pretty steadily, just shooting themselves in the foot with turnovers.
End of one, 14-0 Houston. Now it's Tulsa's turn with the wind at their backs.

Defense - Bag a Cougar.
I WIN!!!!!!!
Tulsa has another good drive going; let's see if they can hang on to the ball and actually finish one. :D
UH playing some good defense when they need to.
The drive stalls out, but they finally use Earth logic and kick a field goal. 14-3, Houston.
Tulsa kicks the ensuing kickoff out of bounds, Houston ball at their 40.
Fail.

How can Tulsa be losing this game?
Difference in the game so far? Tulsa's QB scrambles for a first down and fumbles. Houston's QB scrambles for a first down and doesn't.
Timeout, Tulsa. Their third of the half. Somebody's confused! :D
How can Tulsa be losing this game?
They usually get off to a slow start, especially this past month or so. But usually the offense keeps pace with the other team. Tonight, the offense is constantly self-destructing and the defense is struggling to stop Houston thus far.
Oh, and there's Big 12 refs calling the game, so you know that the team from Oklahoma is automatically f*cked in Texas. :D
Houston get a touchdown on a Brent Venables Special: Tulsa blitzes, they throw a screen pass where the blitzer came from. :D
21-3, Houston.
How can Tulsa be losing this game?
Houston isn't a bad team. They're better than their record shows and have some bad luck with injuries and Hurricane Ike.
Oh, and there's Big 12 refs calling the game, so you know that the team from Oklahoma is automatically f*cked in Texas. :D
Except on that BS celebration penalty. That was weak.

They owed us one for blowing that obvious safety. Make-up calls make the world go 'round.

Wonder if SSC will have claw marks on his back at the Tech TG? :D
Tulsa gets the ball at the Houston 48 and goes three-and-out, then Johnson shanks the pooch punt try.
From potential BCS buster to possibly not even winning their division in just three short weeks; Tulsa may have to change the mascot from Golden Hurricane to Icarus at this rate.
Tulsa actually managed to keep Houston from scoring for a change! 'Cane ball from their own 33.
Finally, Tulsa gets into the end zone on a Johnson-to-Clay strike.
21-10 Houston, 5:04 left in the second quarter.
Well, that tiny bit of momentum didn't last long. Houston gets a 63-yard bomb to push the lead back to 28-10.
On the bright side, this just means that TU gets the ball again! :D
Holy sh*t, #25 had a textbook tackle on that touchdown play. Calling holding is for pussies, apparently.

Sorry Bri...I thought TU was gonna finish out.
I know it's to early to count them out but I didn't think they'd have any trouble with this game.
I thought they'd rebound from the Arkansas loss, especially with the bye week. I was wrong, apparently.
They're just out of sync in every phase of the game right now. I expect the usual good adjustments at halftime, but the hole may be too deep.
The good news: Tulsa gets a touchdown to cut the Houston lead to 35-17.
The bad news: They left :22 on the clock. Time for Houston to score twice on the 'Cane D.
And right on cue, Houston returns the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.
42-17, Houston. :09 left in the second quarter.
Mercifully, it's finally halftime.
TU - 17
UH - 42

Dude, I won't be there...I'm gonna have claw marks on my back in Las Vegas at the Bellagio.
Touchdown Houston. It's like Keith Burns is back on the 'Cane sideline tonight.

UH - 49

Wow. This is awful.
Sorry bri. :( :(
Oh well, the thinned-out crowd will make getting in and out of H.A. Chapman Stadium that much easier next week. :D
TOUCHDOWN TULSA!!! Johnson to Slick Shelley to cut it to a mere 25 point lead! :D
TU - 24
UH - 49
Tulsa tries and executes a perfect onside kick...but they're offsides. After the penalty, they kick it deep. Houston ball.
Tulsa's inablility to tackle takes what should have been a 3rd down stop and turns it into a huge gain down inside their 20.
Whee.
Touchdown Houston. I hope y'all took the over. :D
TU - 24
UH - 56

Good to see coach Sumlin having success at UH.
Pick six for Houston. Their car alarm is starting to get old. :D
TU - 24
UH - 63
Touchdown Tulsa. Swear to god, one or both teams are gonna break 100.
TU - 30
UH - 63
Fun fact: Houston once beat TU 100-6. Dr. Phil was on that Tulsa team. How was that workin' for him?
End of the third.
TU - 30
UH - 63
Touchdown Houston on a QB keeper that went through about six Tulsa arm-tackles.
TU - 30
UH - 70

Tulsa....with their "point a minute" defense! Well, actually a little more than a point a minute but who's countin'.......
:(
And the first team to put in the backup QB is...Tulsa.
Heh.
Aaaaand the backup fumbles at midfield.
That's the sign of a deep program; you bring in the backups and there's no drop-off in performance. :D

alas, the wheels have fallen off the Tulsa bandwagon. I hope none of the TU bandwagon fans sprain ankles jumping off.
GO TU!
Most of the bandwagoners didn't understand that we always lay at least one egg in conference. There's a reason we've never hosted a C-USA title game. Still, there's lots of football left to be played, and I'm thinking Rice may be able to get us back in the title picture in a couple of weeks.

I got into a brief argument watching football last night - I said that TU could still win C-USA.
Him: They already have one loss!
Me: It was to Arkansas.
NP: Non-conference opponent, man.
Him: They still have lots of games left to lose!
Me: They do???
So, question: Do they, or is C-USA's title game berth theirs pretty much?
Right now, Houston has the inside track to the West Division title. Both UH and TU have 5-1 conference records, but Houston has the tie breaker. So basically, Tulsa needs Houston to lose one more time to get back into the title game.

dude, I'm for TU but they don't deserve that after getting raped 70 to 30 by a barely above average Houston.
btw, my sis and fam were at said game and text joked me about being cold spoiled Houstonites.:D
sis says when it's 55 in Houston, the mink coats come out! heh.
