RIP, Harold's. (http://newsok.com/in-surprise-move-harolds-will-close-stores/article/3321321)

Bummer. Before I had kids and could still afford to shop there, I really liked Harold's. (Yes, their stuff was a bit preppy, but that look always seemed to work for me.) Plus they have the Norman connection and all. And they always gave you a Coke just for walking in the door.

Viking Kitten
11/13/2008, 10:06 AM
That's exactly what I was wondering!

Ooh! We're like those poor relations that go crazy after a family death... The ones who loot the house while the body is still on display at the funeral home.

like when my grandma died and I was out of town and some distant cousin came in and STOLE JEWELRY, specifically a ruby ring (my birthstone) that had been promised to me since I was a little girl?

yep.

The Harold's stores in Dallas already are marking everything down.

Harold's Outlet in Austin used to be a mandatory stop.

It's been my understanding (could be wrong), that the store at CC is independent of the rest of the stores, those and the name sold many years ago. We'll see.

Nope, it's closing, too. First thing Mrs SB said, "So they're going to have a sale!!"

Dang. My OCU roomate has been working for Harold's forever. I think he had become their main buyer... of stuff... that they sold...which is now all on sale.

It closed a couple of years ago, I think after the Powell's sold out.

I know, but I was wicked busy running the city today. Tomorrow I'll have to hit Utica Square at lunch and The Farm after work.

Geez, being ambiguously gay is hard work.

Sad, but hey, that's show business. Folks like to buy their duds on-line, or from the Big Box stores, or from the Steinmart, TJ Maxx or DSW's of the world. I haven't paid regular retail on an item of clothing I purchased in a brick and mortar store in ten years. Neither has Mrs. Homey.

I don't think people who buy clothes at Steinmart are going to miss Harold's very much.

remember, I'm a guy who spends a hundred bucks on a pair of khakis. Harolds didn't carry Bill's khakis. I checked.

Yeah I can honestly say I that I have ever bought anything from Steinmart, but I don't believe that I am their demographic.

I'm guilty of shopping on line, A LOT. But with website like retailmenot.com I never pay full price for anything.

For example yesterday, Kate Spade was having a private sale on line. I got a 200 dollar wallet for 77 including shipping. And I found an additional 10% coupon on line.
