View Full Version : Clemson AD landed in OKC today-

Sounds like he is looking at either Kevin Wilson or Brent Venables... They got pictures of the Clemson leer jet at the air port...

I hope it is neither of them, but let it be Venables. I think it is a real curious time to be taking interviews before a huge game like this in a couple of weeks.

I am sure they are looking at Wilson since he has some Clemson ties with Rich Rodriguez..

Also Jaz Reynolds is tripping about not being sure if he has a scholarship anymore with us...

It's an off week. This is the perfect time to be taking an interview.

Rule 23.2.21.2.3.1

Recuriting.

Well, every year has a Feb. 14th, so the rule is 'void for vagueness'.

Besides, we all know such a rule (if it exists) can be waived if the searching team receives permission from the other team's AD (which should be done as a courtesy anyway). Otherwise, how could Mike Stoops have been picked up by Arizona during bowl season, or RichRod go to Meatchicken (among any other hires we could all name)?

I started a thread a week or so ago about the chance KW might leave, and no one was really concerned. With the season he is having, I dont see another OC that is better equipped for a HC gig. Mainly, due to the fact that his offense is not gimmick; but it will be difficult to find a Demarco, Sam, Jermaine, Brown, Loadholdt, Robinson, Igesias, Manny, Broyles, Clapp, and Eldridge @ Clemson.

It is a sign of success that other schools covet your coaching staff. I do fear the impact on this season given we have 3 and possibly 4 critical games to play. The '03 team was the most dominate of the Stoops' era (IMO) and after M.Stoops announced leaving, we got blown out in the CCG and started very sluggish in the MNC and couldn't recover. There were other factors, but it makes you wonder.

Look at Florida State. Bowden maintained basically the same staff for over 10 years. Then, Amato left in 1999 followed by Richt in 2000. The program began to decline shortly after. Bob has done a good job of plugging someone in a spot and maintaining the program after the staff changes every 2-3 years.

I can see them going after Venables instead of Wilson at this point. While I think KW is a better coach overall, BV has been a Stoops protege for a long time and, presumably, would bring Clemson the same management style and philosophy as Bob Stoops. Remembering that head coaches do more managing, strategizing, motivating, etc. than actual coaching.

badger
11/12/2008, 11:49 AM
I think Brent would do well at Clemson. No competition, hot recruiting base and enthusiastic fans who would be happy bowling every year like their cross-state rival under Spurrier.

(and for Clemson fans lurking, do you really think Stoops would dare go to the same state as his mentor and compete recruiting-wise and on the field year in, year out? No, didn't think so. Thanks for playing. Bye now!)

I know we have our friendly little jabs about whether or not BV should be fired, but should all agree that he should be hired. He would make a great head coach.

Let's face it. Leach is not the buttoned-down CEO personality type. He never played college ball. He talks without thinking about what he's saying in advance.

He's not going to the NFL.

I think he's staying out there on the plains -- big enough to hold his personality. They appreciate his brand of independence out there.

Anybody know what he's making now? I recall him being $750k to go out there, what, eight years ago? He must be making quite a bit more now.

I would like to see him go, though. Would be nice to not face him year-in, year-out.
