Thanks vets!

Know why we celebrate it then?
(Hint: Armistice Day)

A day for celebration. This one is for those who served. Memorial Day is that other one for somber moods and remembering those no longer with us.

Thank you Rogue, OV, and all the many vets here in SF.com, and to all our veterans, including my grandfather (WWI and WWII) and my uncle (WWII). Thanks for stepping up to make and keep this country free for all of us. All of you are loved.

Thanks to all vets, both in theatre's of war and out, for all that you have done, are doing and will do in the future. You may never fully get all the appreciation that you are deserved, but remember that most Americans appreciate the sacrifices, hard work, determination and character that you have displayed in being proud Americans and serving your country.

On a sidenote, shout out to my dad (Army Reserves), uncle keith (medic in Vietnam), grandfather (plane mechanic in WWII that was part of a crew that flew generals back and forth from the states to Europe), father-in-law (Air Force) and my wife's Uncle (landed on Utah during Overlord). There are others in the family, but those are the ones that are closest to me.

As a person who never served, and now being 31 with two sons, there are times when I wonder if I should have gone and served, sometimes doubt my decisions to not serve. But I can't change that so instead I have realized that the best way to do my duty is to continue to vote, to act as a community and help people who need it, to be gracious and thankful and to care about this country. In essence, being a proud American is the best way to show Veterans that what they sacrificed does have a deep meaning to all.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
— Lt.-Col. John McCrae

My Canadian half felt like sharing that with y'all

Ya know, one of my favorite songs (One -Metallica) is based on that book.

It sounds like the worst thing possible. I would like to read it.

God Bless America, and thanks to all the vets out there!

I hope I'm not too late, but I don't think there is ever a bad time to say how thankful we are for all of our veterans - those who've served and those who've had family serve. God bless all of you.
