They have played 2 ranked teams so far and lost to an Unranked team on their HOME FIELD...Why is everyone thinking they should be ranked higher than OU?

Stop worrying about it. We win the rest of our games and it all works itself out.

No worries. A SEC team will get knocked out in the CCG leaving one SEC team and one Big 12 team. It will make for a great MNC.

Why do people care where UF is ranked? Only 1 team will emerge from the SEC.

We're smashing teams but not necessarily good ones. At least not yet.

Because they murdered the pre-season number 1, Georgia. If we murder Tech, we'll leap them. Then when they murder Bama, they'll leap us. Regardless, if we win out and they do (which is likely to happen), they'll be 1 and we'll be 2, and we'll have our chance to change that in Miami.

But UGA is not very good...I don't care how good Bama supposedly is, you don't trail 31-0 at home at the half and call yourself a good team. A rich man's Clemson, basically. Oh, and Ole Miss? Lol.

Cinci and TCU are arguably good teams but I agree that we haven't smashed any good conference teams yet....

Because the SEC football fans agree the Southeastern Conference is the best all-round league in college football.

Right. OU is smashing bad teams. Florida smashes teams with numbers by their name.

Where would Georgia be in the Big 12 south? They got smashed by Bama and Florida and the would get smashed by OU.

Honestly, they would probably beat either us, texas, or tech.

1-2 against big 3

Question: Why is Florida ranked Higher than OU?

Answer A: Because the voters are giving more weight to OU and Florida's wins than to their losses. Florida's SOS (in the Sagarin ratings) is 9th, ours is 43rd.

Answer B: We both have one loss, and Florida looks like a more impressive team to them.

Pick one or both, but now you know. You are welcome to voice your opinion that they (the voters) should be looking at other things, but the claim that there is no good reason for them to have Florida over OU seems silly.

Sometimes, you have to throw out the records and SOS and use football knowledge.

I think Florida would beat either OU/Texas/Tech on a neutal field.

I think people use SOS too much. It's just one aspect of judging teams. Soemtimes you have to go with what you feel.

Yeah. Some people want to use quantitative reasons for putting Florida ahead of OU. Some people are fine with qualitative.

Answer A is the quant side, Answer B is the qual side. Both seem pretty reasonable to me.

I'm hoping we get a chance to test that OU / Florida theory you fellas have. The game between us has been brewing for quite some time. The bad thing is that if it does pan out....we'll be in the same position we were in when we played LSU for all the marbles. Florida will basically have a Home Field Advantage.

I hope we play Bama...not that they aren't in the same vicinity but it might be a little better playing them in Miami than UofF.

I think we match up better against Bama too.

As for Answer A, our Sagarin ranking should be higer than Florida's, because we have to finish the season against a Top 2 team and a Top 13 team...Florida only plays a mythically ranked Florida State team...That is all...

Also there is this:
Oklahoma Rank Florida Rank
Chatt. 130.0 Hawaii 84.0
Cincinnati 22.0 Miami 32.0
Washington 112.0 Tennessee 84.0
TCU 18.0 Ole Miss 48.0
Baylor 93.0 Arkansas 55.0
Texas 3.0 LSU 20.0
Kansas 16.0 Kentucky 53.0
Kansas St 73.0 Georgia 10.0
Nebraska 44.0 Vandi 47.0
Texas A&M 68.0 S. Carolina 25.0
Texas Tech 2.0 Citadel 130.0
OSU 13.0 Florida St. 19.0
AVG Rank 49.5 AVG Rank 50.6

OU and Florida at very least have the same Average SOS, and then you throw in the fact that OU lost to a Top 5 opponent away and Florida lost to a N/R opponent on their HOME Field...If you notice that I gave Citadel and Chattanooga a rank of 130 each, because they are both Division 1AA teams and therefore do no count towards SOS, but for this instance I included the rank of 130...

So again, why is Florida rank ahead of OU?

Because we haven't beaten Tech and OSU yet. If we DO beat them, we probably pass Florida.

Do you really think that we should be ranked ahead of them now because the remainder of our schedule is tougher than theirs?

Didn't Florida State supposedly have the home-field advantage in the 2001 Orange Bowl?

No I think we should be ahead of them because of what we have already done...Also because of who they lost to compared to who we lost to...

That's fine. But there are reasons to have Florida ranked ahead of us too. We looked better in our loss (losing to a better team), but they've looked better in their wins (winning games against tougher teams).

The rest of the schedule will give us the opportunity to make up some...maybe all...of that ground, but the rest of the schedule is yet to come. For now, we're both one-loss teams and Florida's played a tougher schedule. I may feel that we should be ranked ahead of Florida, but I'm not going to pretend like there's no good reason Florida should be ranked ahead of us.

We definitely should be ranked ahead of Florida before the CCG's... So should Texas if they win out...

Florida jumped from 10 in the BCS to 3 with a win over Georgia, Kentucky and Vanderbilt... Georgia volted them all the way up. If we beat Texas Tech we should pass both Texas and Florida in the computers. The rest is up to the voters.

I am counting on it really, Florida was ranked 10th in the computers and got a HUGE bump when they beat Georgia - rated 6th.... Computer wise...

So would we if we beat Tech and let alone OSU...

That sheet basically says what I've been saying all along. Those teams are ranked based on "cumulative opposition"...the combination of their past schedule and their future schedule. Look at how our past schedule stacks up against Florida's...theirs is tougher, but we've got an opportunity to catch them with our remaining games.
