Probably because they lost to the #1 and #3 ranked teams.

They need to teach them how to watch the games. Artificial Intelligence! :D

Utah should have lost... TCU defense had a slight slip-up. Would have given us more style points. Cincy did a great job against West Virginia... that gave us points.

But it doesn't matter now... we control our fate. Beat Texas Tech and Oklahoma State and it's in the bag.

In the set of Sagarin rankings the BCS uses, margin of victory is not considered.

Interestingly... if you use his set of rankings which does consider margin of victory (and is used by Vegas to strongly aid in setting their opening lines)... the rankings are as follows:

1) USC
2) FL
3) PSU
4) TX U.
5) OU
6) Tech
7) Bama
8) TCU
9) Iowa
10) Mizzou

Computers will like us better when we beat the #2 and #8 team. And the computers will like the fact that the humans move us up after beating those teams as well.

Controlling our own fate means us winning out. No other factors come into play.

You just named 2 other factors that are yet to be resolved.

Computers don't care where humans rank anyone.

This is very correct. I think this point is best illustrated by Sagarin's ranking of Texas's and OU's schedule strength.

He ranks UT's schedule as 8th and OU's as 43rd. We have many common opponents thus far and our OOC schedule is stronger than theirs. However, they have played TT and OSU and we haven't.

This is also correct.

What sucks about these mid-major love affairs is that these teams don't ever lose because they don't ever PLAY anyone. Every so often one of them will go out of conference and play a tough team. But there is an enormous difference between playing in a tough conference week in and week out versus playing Wyoming, Utah State, Nevada, crap like that.

And to top it off, everyone acts like this love for mid majors is justified because Utah beat an awful Pitt team in the Fiesta a few years back and Boise beat the second worst team in the Bob Stoops era ON A LAST MINUTE DRIVE FULL OF TRICK PLAYS.

At least Georgia prison raped Hawaii back to Bolivia last year. Funny how none of the sports media brings that up when fellating the mid majors.
