Is it never gonna die, or is it in its death throes?

I tend to lean towards the later. :(

Why? Where are getting your music from? If it's from over-the-airwaves radio, stop. That's probably why you think rock is dying.

I gets it from the sirius and the interwebs, and I hear some pretty encouraging things out there. But I do listen to terrestrial stuff from time to time and shake my head. If this is what is passing for rock in the main stream venues these days...

It just seems the true Rock n' Rollers are a dying breed.

I can't name many bands that dropped a debut in the 2000's that don't suck.

Yup. Radio is just completely oriented to the lowest common denominator and their own bottom line. I can't stand to listen to it all. I recently rode in a vehicle with only an FM radio, I was channel surfing a bit, and as God is my witness, four separate stations were all playing Nickelback at the same time. No thanks! I'd rather ride in silence.

But I have found lots of exciting stuff I like on the Web. I've never been an indie music snob and I don't consider myself one now. It's just that corporate radio and their need to pidgeonhole music is stifling a lot of artists right now, maybe more than they ever have. So the indie stuff is just a heck of a lot better right now, IMO.

Agreed. If I don't have my iPod or Sirius, no music is on in my car.

I use this site to try and find some decent stuff

http://www.music-map.com/

Kind of funny some of the stuff that comes up close to bands I really like. Sometimes I just look at the screen and say "Oh no you didn't!" :D

That's very cool. I look at the Hype Machine a lot: http://hypem.com/

It's sort of a aggregator of all the music bloggers. I find a blogger who likes things similar to what I like and find out what new things they are listening to. I figure they've got more time to sort through all the new stuff than I do. I've found a lot of good stuff that way.

Interesting. I'll have to check that out too.

I've pretty much stopped listening to modern music.

I have a soft rule in place that states if a band dropped their debut album prior to 1992, I reserve the right to say they suck.

That said, I like some of the stuff coming out of England and Scandinavia lately.

You can listen to tracks, that is definitely cool.

I personally like going to iTunes Blues radio stations. Those usually have some good riffs n stuff.

I've been on a bit of a blues/jazz/bebop kick lately. Weird for an ex-metal head
