i don't think you can bet on sports, other than horseracing

in the Indian casinos you can play Blackjack and Pai Gow with a commission that goes to the house. that is where they get their money. they don't bank the games, as far as i know. there also may be other table games it seems, but i haven't been in a while

you can also play poker with a rake. i think it's 10% up to $4

Simple really. You CAN come in fully clothed, and you CAN'T leave with anything but your undies(they get to keep the elastic band).

Isn't Vegas the only place with a sports book in the US?

Okay, I'm gonna break this down. Its more complicated than I'm describing, but it should answer your basic questions. Not to brag, but I believe I know about as much about what can and can't be done in Indian casinos under the various tribal, state and federal laws as anyone in Oklahoma.

Under the Federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 (IGRA), there are basically two classes of Indian gaming:

Class II: non-banked card games (where you play against the other patrons and pay a few bucks per hand to the House as a rental fee or "commission",) bingo, pull-tabs, tip jars and bingo-based machines. These Class II machines look like slots, but trust me, they are connected to a server where a bingo game runs in which you are playing against everyone else pulling levers at that casino, and each time you pull the lever, your electronic bingo card is daubed. If you win, you get a jackpot. The spinning tumblers are just eye candy. Some tribes cling to Class II because the state doesn't get a slice of the action. IMHO, that's kinda myopic because Class III (below) makes waaaaay more money, and even though the state gets a piece of the action, the tribe is still better off -- but I digress.

Class III: Anything they have in Vegas. "Banked" card games where you play against the dealer, regular slots, craps, roullette, etc. In order to have Class III play, per IGRA, tribes must sign on to the Tribal-State Gaming Compact (which Brad Henry got done in Oklahoma). If tribes sign on, they can have Class III play and games, and the state gets a slice -- averages about 8% of the house gross.

There is a Class I, which is unregulated, and it includes traditional Indian gaming, not generally open to non-tribal members. Like informal betting on stickball games or horse races.

Therefore, in order to know what to expect, ask the management if they are a Class II or Class III house. they'll tell you.

Incidentally, John McCain was one of the Senate sponsors of IGRA.

Also, FWIW, there is no Indian gaming in texass because tribes may only conduct gaming on property held in trust for them by the US government; typically current or former rez land. Since texans, being world-class a-holes, run-oft or killed all the Indians who lived there, there is no Indian gaming in texass.

None up here either. I think it has something to do with ANILCA.

And the fact that the tribal corporations in areas that are actually near people are filthy rich already.

Native Hawai'ians have been trying to get on the Indian gaming train for years to no avail. If memory serves, at least one of the reasons there is no Indian gaming in AK is the definition of Indian Country under IGRA.
