Palin takes on fruit flies--And loses

Lisa Stein

http://www.sciam.com/blog/60-second-science/post.cfm?id=palin-takes-on-fruit-flies--and-los-2008-10-27

Amid the hoopla about Sarah Palin's very un-hockey mom $150,000 campaign wardrobe (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html), the Republican veep candidate managed to drop another flammable tidbit that set off the science community (http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shortsharpscience/2008/10/sarah-palin-does-her-bit-for-s.html?DCMP=ILC-hmts&nsref=specrt11_head_No%20fruit%20flies),
not to mention the blogosphere (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-seitzman/the-lyin-the-witch-and-th_b_137028.html).

During a speech on her ticket's special needs policy last week, Palin, who has held up her Down's syndrome young son as a symbol of her kinship with all parents of special needs children, mocked earmarks better known as pork for eating up much-needed federal funds.

She vowed – as she has many times -- that if she and running mate John McCain are elected, they will nix such fat that's tacked onto budget bills by lawmakers eager to win points back home-- projects that "really don't make a whole lot of sense" and have "little or nothing to do with the public good. . . things like fruit fly research in Paris, France."

"I kid you not," she declared with a chuckle.

One problem: the research she chose to highlight as a waste of cash just happens to have borne some, well, fruit. And for special needs kids, no less. Among such projects: a 2007 University of North Carolina study (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6WSS-4PKGJV3-C&_user=10&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=c&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=fce005ed770e9f7a99f2d55716dbeea7]) that researchers said might be key to better understanding the root of autism spectrum disorders (http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=new-theory-about-autism-roots).

Picking on science research as an example of frivolous spending seems to be a theme with the McCain-Palin campaign. McCain, for instance, has been making a point of dissing research of grizzly bear DNA (http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=mccains-beef-with-bears) in TV spots and on the campaign trail, and he brought it up again as recently as his first debate with Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama. In fact, ScientificAmerican.com established in a February article that the study was crucial to determining whether grizzlies are a dying breed.

As bloggers and scientists have noted, next time McCain and Palin want to tout their devotion to special needs and health care, they might do well to avoid condemning the very science designed to address those issues.

The research doesn't help the fruit flies. It helps us to better understand genes. About 75% of known human disease genes have a recognizable match in the genetic code of fruit flies, so by studying them, we might find the cures for a lot of diseases plaguing us. Like autism for example.

You kind of need a living and breeding population to study the genetic changes. Plus, breeding the little sons of bitches ain't the expensive part. The genetic sequencers, centrifuges, high power microscopes, and such are the part that costs money.

Right its all of the genetic stuff that costs money. Sequencing although cheaper than it used to be is still incredibly expensive. For example some of the sequencing reactions especially for studies such as these (i.e., for studies of gene expression for genes involved in autism) that require massive efforts can cost $15,000 per run just for the supplies for the reaction. And you need them to breed to use them. Additionally we can manipulate their genetic code easily in order to control and understand the outcomes of the genetic experiments.

Exactly you took it as money going to France... WHICH IS WRONG. It is money going to autism research and for collaboration with scientists in France. Not all of the premier research in the world is done in America! It shows that she doesnt understand the nature of science and how problems are solved. It shows that she doesnt understand that the study of fruitfly genetics has led to discoveries of all sorts of medicinal practices that are used today. It shows she cant look past her own face.

It took her 5 years to eventually get a degree in journalism from the distinguished journalism school at the University of Idaho. Idaho, may have quite a few programs that they are quite recognizable for, but it is not a bastion of journalistic knowledge.

I watched her interviews and I have seen her debates. She cant answer a question with her own thoughts. Plain and simple.

The media, the media , the media... When are conservatives going to realize that not everything in the media is false? And when are you going to realize that intelligent people make there own decisions after doing actual research and arent programmed by the media as bad as you want to believe it.

You mean spouting rehearsed republican talking points makes her smart? W did the same thing, and I dont think he is to bright. No I havent met her... Have you? So if thats your qualification for being able to judge someones intelligence then you cant make an accurate judgement either. And what if the people that have met her are biased or even worse unintelligent themselves? How do i know if the are qualified to judge someone's intelligence?

Its obvious she doesnt understand all of the intricacies of being an advocate for underage children otherwise she would support this research. Just because you have a special needs child doesnt mean you know everything about them and what needs to be done. you have to do actual research in order to grasp all of the needs not only of the child, but also of the medical fields and science trying to understand and treat the childs condition. She proved she couldnt do that. And she has proven been proven on numerous occasions to not understand the needs of science so that we can actually make progress.

You are right there are more things that science hasnt explained. Thats because understanding things and doing research that is rigorous and complete is difficult and takes a long time.

Right just a guess... You dont know what you are talking about. That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. I guess all that modern medicine you use is just a guess. I bet you like turning on the lights in the morning. I bet you like having fresh uncontaminated food.

I guess modern society just runs on a whole lot of guesses.

Theories are not just guesses. They are called theories because rarely can something be completely proven without exception. Similarly, science is attempting to classify things in terms of trends as exactly as possible. Sometimes things dont fit and that brings up a whole new set of questions... Like why did that result happen. can it be reproduced? if not can we figure out why it happened anyway? It doesnt mean that it doesnt exist any scientist that says that is not a good rigorous scientist.

Do you ever think that scientists get a bit "snooty" when people come in and try to tell us what they know is right, that what we are doing is just a bunch of guesses, and how to do our job, when they dont know what they are talking about without having done anything to be knowledgeable about the subject? If that happened to you with your job I bet it would **** you off too and you might be the one that comes of as "snooty."

I think I do have an idea of how smart she is, she has had a lot more exposure now. I've seen her talk, debate and interview. I've seen her word choice and the way she speaks. I've heard her ideas for the way things should be run and I know what beliefs she has and I know how I feel about her chosen set. And they all lead me to one conclusion - clever, but not intelligent. She obviously has charisma, but so did W and I dont think he was smart either. He was adroit in persuading people, but not so much in terms of actual substance and getting things done and done right.

And sure, Obama would have his people do it... But then does she not have people? are they dumb people or what? Who bears the brunt of it when they make a mistake? Who hired those people? Why as a politician would you say something that hadnt been researched or vetted properly? Ultimately the responsibility has to fall on her if she says something dumb... especially about something that she has said she feels strongly about.

You and JM and LAS may not like Palin, but she's hardly the dumbass you guys try and paint her as. It's kinda dumb to attack her lack of intelligence when you don't really know how smart she really is.
She's given us plenty of evidence regarding her degree of intelligence based on things she's said in interviews, in speeches and in high pressure "think on your feet" situations.

And she's consistently failed. She's good at being a robot and repeating what she's been told to say (until lately, now that she thinks she knows what's best ). She's good at playing on people's fears and on their passions. But actual intellectual discourse and issues requiring subtlety, grace and consideration are clearly beyond her capabilities.

The proof is in the pudding.

And I'm angry about it because 4 years from now people will be looking back on this election and admitting the hard truth: That Sarah Palin cost John McCain the Presidency.

Palin's future causes Republican rift

By Alexander Mooney
CNN
(CNN) -- Election Day is still days away, but Republicans are already caught up in a heated debate about Sarah Palin's future role in the party should the GOP ticket fail to win the White House.

In one corner are some conservatives who believe the Alaska governor has been a detriment to John McCain's presidential bid and threatens to lead the party astray for the foreseeable future.

Another faction says Palin's core-conservative beliefs, demonstrated political acumen, and compelling frontier biography position her to reshape the face of a party now viewed by many voters as out of touch.

It's a debate, somewhat ugly at times, that is beginning to play out in public view as Republicans brace themselves for the possibility of losing the White House and a significant number of seats in Congress come Election Day. And that may leave the party in shambles with drastically reduced influence in Washington.

Should that happen, political observers say, the party will face its biggest identity crisis in more than a generation, and Palin (http://topics.cnn.com/topics/sarah_palin) may well be caught squarely in the middle of it.

"A civil war that is simmering will break out into the open if McCain loses, and the party will have to decide what they want to be in the post-Reagan world," said Gloria Borger, a senior political analyst for CNN.

Palin, whose campaign rally crowds have been noticeably larger than McCain (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/candidates/john.mccain.html)'s, will certainly have legitimacy to run for president in four years should she want to. Some McCain operatives, claiming Palin repeatedly veers off script and often disregards the campaign's advice, already believe she is more interested in positioning herself for the future than helping the party win this year.

"She is such a compelling figure, and she has helped, without a doubt, with the Republican base," CNN Chief National Correspondent John King said. "But she's also hurting with key constituencies, like suburban women and independents, and there's a big question that, if McCain loses, does she try to emerge as the leader of the party heading into the 2012 cycle?"

Should Palin ultimately decide to launch her own presidential bid, she will face a massive headwind from an influential group of conservatives who believe the Alaska governor represents the very reasons why the Republican Party finds itself in retreat.

"She is a person of great ambition, but the question remains: What is the purpose of the ambition? She wants to rise, but what for? It's unclear whether she is Bushian or Reaganite. She doesn't think aloud. She just ... says things," conservative columnist Peggy Noonan wrote in a recent Wall Street Journal column.

It's an argument that has been echoed by a string of conservatives -- including David Brooks, George Will, Kathleen Parker, and David Frum -- who believe Palin exhibits a poisonous anti-intellectual instinct of the party that threatens to ultimately destroy its foundations.

"Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely. And I'm afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices," said Brooks, a conservative columnist for the New York Times.

Frum, a former speechwriter for President Bush who has written that Palin is woefully inexperienced to be president, told CNN the Alaska (http://topics.cnn.com/topics/alaska) governor's chances might be slim in a general election matchup.

"She will face the classic problem of being a strong candidate for the nomination, but not such an appealing candidate across party lines," he said. "She has a very intense following among core Republicans, but at the same time, non-core Republicans have reached a very negative verdict."

Frum also pointed to recent polling that suggests Palin's unfavorable ratings have sharply risen in the last two months, and predicted it will be extremely difficult for her to combat a perception among many voters that she is a lightweight, ill equipped for the burdens of the presidency.

"This is a moment where people have formed impressions, they have been watching her closely and paying a lot of attention," he said. "Even if she spends the next two and a half years delivering worthy speeches at the Council on Foreign Relations, the cumulative work that she will do will be seen by fewer people than probably watched the Katie Couric interview or the Charlie Gibson interview, or the debate with Joe Biden."

But even as one corner of the party predicts dire consequences if Palin becomes the Republican standard-bearer, another is strongly behind her.
"I hope and expect that she stays involved nationally, and she can play pretty much whatever role she wants to. She's got momentum now, and I'd be surprised if she didn't play a leadership role in the party," Richard Viguerie, a prominent cultural conservative and chairman of conservativehq.com, told CNN.

Viguerie, as well as many other cultural conservatives, point to Palin's core beliefs on key issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage and say she represents a fresh face, from a different region of the country, who has the potential to reshape the conservative movement.

"Palin, as best I can describe it, exudes a kind of middle-class magnetism. It's subdued but nonetheless very powerful," Weekly Standard editor Fred Barnes recently wrote. "Whether they know it or not, Republicans have a huge stake in Palin. If, after the election, they let her slip into political obscurity, they'll be making a tragic mistake."

Factors out of Palin's control could ultimately control her fate.

The political landscape in 2012 may look markedly different than it does now, depending on the success of a President Obama (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/candidates/barack.obama.html) should the Illinois senator win. Unforeseen developments in the economy and the war in Iraq will also likely have an effect on whether Palin rises to the forefront of her party in the next election cycle.

But one thing is clear: If Palin wants to mount a serious bid for her party's nomination in 2012, she has a lot of groundwork to do.

She has yet to form relationships with many key conservative groups at the local level, whose support would be instrumental in ultimately capturing the Republican presidential nomination. She knows few party chairman in the key early primary states where the race will likely be decided.

"She needs to get out there and get to know conservative leaders at the national, state, and local level," Viguerie said. "She needs to introduce herself in a way she hasn't had the opportunity to do so far."

And should McCain lose next Tuesday, the Alaska governor will have little time to take a breath.

"She would have to start the day after the election if she wants to run for president -- there is no period where the election isn't going on," Frum said. A Palin campaign would grab a solid 25-30% chunk of America, but would lose all the moderates, centrists, intellectuals, scientists, businessmen, etc. Just as she did this election. http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/.element/img/2.0/content/ads/advertisement.gif

http://www.cnbc.com/id/27418473

The two just look like different thinkers in this interview. As I watched this, I could see that McCain was angered when Palin offered her different, in-the-box thinking. But don't worry, I wondered throughout this interview how Obama and Biden would look when asked the same questions.

People that say things to say things scare me. Dean, the way you are arguing in this thread shows me that you and Palin think on the same lines. Is it smart? No, no, no, no... it's very reactionary and snappy. But hey, if it fits you, so be it.

And she has proven been proven on numerous occasions to not understand the needs of science so that we can actually make progress.

ok so 2 very long posts just to say what I have already said. You don't have a freaking clue about her intelligence beyond what you have seen on TV. You don't know the reason she went to more than one college and I can tell you from experience, that can have NOTHING to do with a persons smarts. You say you've seen the debateS, there was only one and she did fine in it. You say you've seen her interviews, which ones? They've already said, as an example, that the Charlie Gibson one was edited in such a way to make her look stupid. For a guy thats suppose to be smart, you'd think maybe you wouldn't believe everything you've seen on tv. Do you ever think that her "handlers" from the McCain camp have had her so confined on what they wanted her to say or not to say that it put her into a position of not feeling comfortable in her own skin? A governor of any state that has an 80+% approval rating was doing somthing right. To downplay that is more than ignorance on your part.

You do know that intelligence and ignorance have nothing to do with each other right? Ignorance can be fixed through education of a topic.

And neither do you. I saw both the Couric interview and the Gibson interview. I'd like to hear any of the excuses for the Couric interview... And I believe the stuff that comes out of her mouth on TV or in print. If she makes stupid statements then I'm going to infer that she is stupid. I love how it is a major conservative talking point that every thought in the head of America is planted there by the media. I guess everything she has said that is unfounded or unthoughtful must be out of context? Exactly, where are all your secret sources that dont involve TV or print?

And I never said she wasnt doing something right for her state, if they like her thats fine. Considering her entire state has an equivalent population of one major metropolitan area, then you might be able to see how i have difficulty translating that to the entire country.

And then the McCain handler story... excuses, excuses... I'm supposed to just accept that as the reason for all of these gaffes.

If you are saying ignorance is her problem than I'd agree with that too. It relates to intelligence in either she does not want to aquire new knowledge or she is not capable of assimilating new knowledge. I'd love to see her become more educated, then maybe she wouldnt say and do so many dumb things.

Many scientists make their own money through invention and from all other kinds of sources. The government is paying me for my knowledge, both that I have accumulated and that I will accumulate. Its not a handout.

I, as in the letter and myself, know (not THINK) this is an explosion of gaytardery the likes I have never witnessed. From both sides, it's like trying to convince the Pope into not being Catholic by bringing hard, factual evidence that Catholics fought in a bunch of wars and killed a bunch of people over the years in the name of God. There are people who want to gain knowledge so they can win arguments and there are people who want to gain knowledge so they can be better informed, more intelligent and have a better grasp of the world around them, even if gaining that knowledge reveals that they have been wrong in previous assertions and positions.

I feel that Sarah Palin is the former and not the latter. It appears that many of the "higher ups" and intellectuals in the Republican Party agree with me.

The point I am trying to make is that you've made a judgement yet I doubt you have ever met her, the people that have say she is a very smart lady. I wonder if you even saw either of the two speeches she made last week, one on womens rights and this one on special needs children? Then there was the one on energy this morning? I doubt it but you've made a judgement based on what? SNL skits? She certainly isn't a dumb person as many try to make her out to be.

Have you met her? Describe to me some of her OWN thoughts that prove she can have any sort of rational thought process.

Speeches don't impress me much because I know people wrote them for the candidates. Obama's speeches weren't written by him either, but when he gets interviewed, I can tell he is intelligent with the way he responds. Also, he has some ideas of his own, some of them bad, some of them good. But at least he is intelligently defending them.

I haven't seen one interview Palin did good in. I don't care how much they chopped it up, it's not like they dubbed in some of the stupid stuff she has said.

And to those that were saying her 5 college years at 5 colleges doesn't make her dumb, you're partially right, but it definitely proves to me she isn't all that smart. Obama and Harvard Law School tells me right off the bat he has the determination and work ethic to succeed. Palin's college experience doesn't tell me anything, other than it took her five tries at five colleges.

Someone give me something that can change my mind, and I will...but so far I'm just basing my decision on the facts I've gathered for myself. The rest of you seem to just keep name calling because its the only way you can "defend her".

If Obama doesn't have a teleprompter in front of him or a question that he can use a canned answer for he does a lot of um um um ah uh stuff. I agree that he is a very smart man, no question but don't tell me he looks good in all interviews.

Everyones life experiences are different. Who knows what her reasons were? I went to 5 different undergrad schools, it had nothing to do with my GPA or smarts, it was about family responsibities. But whatever. keep trying

All I am saying here folks is that it is lame to ty to insult her intelligence when she has accomplished the things she has in life. Argue her policies all you want but until you've met her and talked to her one on one, you don't know and don't act like you do.

I'm a computer engineer at Hitachi. What does being governor of Alaska have to do with being smart? Hell, Bush is president of the US and he's dumber than a rock.

Ok, he looks good in most interviews. How's that?

No, I honestly didn't see those. I hate Hannity. But in all seriousness, please inform me of something she said that made her seem intelligent. Like I said, I'm willing to change my mind if people prove me wrong.

What did you get your degree in? I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but Journalism isn't exactly a hard major by any means. Ask homey (I think that's who I'm thinking of), law school is hard. My right nut could get a journalism degree if it wanted to.

My wife has gone to 3 different colleges, but I don't think she's dumb. Hell she was going into Meteorology for a little while (which is way harder than my major).:gary:

I'm not calling you dumb either, but you don't have the chance to potentially become president, so I'm not going to hold you to the same level of scrutiny as I do her.

All I am saying here folks is that it is lame to ty to insult her intelligence when she has accomplished the things she has in life. Argue her policies all you want but until you've met her and talked to her one on one, you don't know and don't act like you do.

Seriously though, I'm just asking for some proof that she is intelligent, is that asking too much?

You make it sound like I'm bragging, but if you read his question, I was merely answering him when he asked what I do for a living.

Why I think she is dumb / things she's said that bug me:

1. Being in Alaska gives her foreign policy because of Russia. This bugs me because geographically, there is only one place in Alaska that one would actually be able to see Russia from. Hell, I saw TJ in Mexico, but that doesn't give me foreign policy experience...just experience getting drunk off tequila:D The fact that she truly believes this is weird to me, and makes me question her intelligence level.

2. Her interviews that I've seen. Whether it's simple questions about what type of magazines she reads, or whether it's about what a VP's role is (NOT A POWER OVER THE SENATE!), she just doesn't come across as intelligent. When your own party won't let you talk to the press, it gives me the impression that even her own party doesn't have too much confidence in her.

3. Her speech don't ya know! All the folksy you betchya gosh darnit stuff definitely doesn't scream I'M REALLY SMART! To me it comes across very fake and makes me uncomfortable watching her.

4. Hockey mom pageant queen. Sure it's cool, I knew some hockey mom's and they were pretty intense! But I never thought about going up to them and starting a discussion on anything that requires thought or problem solving. Same with pageant queens and the like. I'm sure there are some smart ones out there, but I have yet to meet one that would make a good president or vice president.

5. The way she handles herself in public. She places a lot of blame on people, many times in her own party. Most intelligent people I know can take hits when they deserve them, rather than continually blaming others.

Let me know if you need more.

Umm...exactly? If you don't think of her as a politician, then why would you elect her as one?

Would you rather the engineers who design your car BE ACTUAL ENGINEERS, or just some nice dudes that you'd like to have a beer with? People work hard to get the positions and roles they have in society because that is what they are good at. If she was a good politician, then I'd vote for her, but she's not. She's exactly what you said she is.

You stated a bunch of opinion and we all know how those are.

One thing I do have to take you to task on though. Her "foreign policy" experience with Russia being just across the bay trumps your boy's FP experience ten-fold. How sad is that? Brack's closest rub with anything "foreign" is dealing with those crazy Pollacks over in Wisconsin.

Proof? Ok then, lets try and prove it just for fun.

Assume Palin is indeed not dumb. Let's also assume that a reasonable amount of correct intelligent answers to qualify for president is at least greater than 50%, which would prove that she is more intelligent than she is dumb.

I have come up with five things that show she is indeed dumb. Now you come up with five things that show she is actually not dumb at all. If you come up with five arguments and can defend them. Then we'll agree that she is neither dumb or intelligent. If you can come up with five things and argue against any of my 5 as showing that one of my five shows her intelligence, then you can prove she is indeed smart. If you can't do that, we can agree that she is not intelligent.

Would that be a better (not scientific at all) proof to you?

When did Obama say he has tons of FP experience though? Like I said, intelligent people know when to take a hit, rather than blame other people or come up with something crazy like the whole Russia thing. Everyone knows that McCain has way more FP experience. But that wasn't the point or topic of this thread. Palin is the topic of discussion.

Civil service. Old school. I love America and capitalism. You youngsters forget that some of us have brought ourselves along with hard work, not savvy investments. Every dime I have I earned. I didn't invest it wisely or make $$ off somebody elses labor. The money I save is in 0 risk (low to average return) stuff. I believe in cash. The market may crumble, but until paper money becomes worthless, I'm good. And even then, I've got cattle, land, equipment, etc. to make ends meet, not a broker with a promise.

Having solid investments that are not risky is always the way to diversify. We have more than 50% of investments in low yield. Making money off the labor of others is the American way. Na, I'm done. I can get baned. Have fun making fun of others and attacking them personally. I would go toe to toe with ya, I really would, but I like a lot of people on this board and I don't want to get baned for saying too much stupid **** to the wrong person (you).

Cool. You ain't gonna get baned giving me ****. Not by me anyhow. Just don't give other people the same business. Plus, you need to understand that I don't make fun of others or attack them personally. I poke fun, and if they take it seriously then oh well. If they take it and give it in the spirit it's given then it's good. If they don't, then oh well too. I'd love to go toe to toe too, but I'm going to bed. It's getting late on the east coast.

Diggin' deep here, been over ten years since I walked the streets of Baltimore.

On Joppa Road (I think), west of the big mall off the Pulaski highway. North part of Baltimore County. Irish bar. Best damn corned beef hoagies known to mankind.

The thick chunks, not the ****ty shaved New York queer ****, either. Frickin' gold.

Nah, its all cool man. You'd be surprised what it takes to actually get me pissed off. So long as your cool with it, I was pretty much just trying to **** you off. (Shouldn't of taken away my god damed troll!!!!!) I'm just pretty sure you're the one with the bane hammer, and to be quite honest, I don't think you're dumb enough to use it on yourself. Other mods, sure, you...I may have been born at night, but not last night :D

She's the Governor of a ****ing state! What do you do for a living?
Apparently it's harder to win Miss Alaska than it is to get elected Governor of Alaska.

Color me unimpressed.

So, what you're saying is that you're pretty much ****ed huh? Bummer. Sucks to be you...

"Diversify" to me is buying brangus instead of registered angus. Either way I can sell them tomorrow, eat them, or have them mow my pasture. Blue chips? Solid earners? I've got a bull named Mike Tyson who cost me $1,200 5 years ago. That bull has made me over $75K since. You got a stock that'll do that?

I ain't bagging on you brother, but you jumped in this dealio. I hate seeing people losing their asses on the market, but then again I've been called a dumbass for not investing in it. **** has a way of coming home to roost.

No, I'm not ****ed. My location is a way of poking fun at what is going on.

Good for you on the cattle. Psst, not everyone has a ranch or the ability to buy cows and such. (Just thought I'd let you in on that)
The market isn't **** if you know how to leverage. Go big on the solid stuff that will be around and low return bonds etc. Most people stay in this neighborhood and they have no business going all in on the big kill stocks (hot movers that are volatile) . Those that are losing their shirts are the ones that aren't diversified or they had a 401 that they were told would keep them solid when they hit the golden years. Just cause they have them doesn't make them stupid or even asking for **** to come home and roost.

You guys that love the old "MSM is the debil" addage need to realize that ONE thing matters to them more than their agenda, it's cash. They love a juicy story (Clinton ring a bell?) more than the messiahs you perceive them to have. The sooner you guys realize that the almighty dollar is what drives the megalacorps that run the networks and news, the better.

Wow, Fraggle doesn't like Palin because she wouldn't deliver his kind of pork. Sorry that you weren't pandered to.

And when a recent world scrabble champion doesn't even speak english, while the analogy is amusing and self-congratulatory to you all, in the same way that I guess as the circle-jerking on the daily show of we're-so-smart-they're-so-dumb, it's actually ****ing stupid.

I never called MSM the "debil". Stupid, asinine, completely biased, struggling with a wholesale identity crisis, hateful, self-loathing, childish, rebels without a real cause, and hypocritical? Yes, but not the devil. :D
