serious question monetary d00d. Would it be dumb to buy a bit of gold each month, just for giggles? I even already have a (gun) safe. I figure I could swing a half ounce each month without even really missing the money.

Shouldn't be unless they make it illegal to own gold again. Nothing wrong with commodoty diversification.

Really? I've always wondered why... why do people say that gold has some intrinsic value that will always be worth something no matter what?

Gold is extremely ductile and highly resistant to any sort of tarnish. Any semi-industrial society can find all sorts of uses for gold.
