DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - Syria's state-run television and witnesses say U.S. military helicopters have attacked an area along the country's border with Iraq, causing casualties.
The report quoted unnamed Syrian officials and said the area is near the Syrian border town of Abu Kamal. It gave no other details on Sunday's attack.

Local residents told The Associated Press by telephone that two helicopters carrying U.S. soldiers raided the village of Hwijeh, 10 miles inside Syria's border, killing seven people and wounding five.

The U.S. military in Baghdad had no immediate comment.

Probably not. I'm even more leery of "state-run television" than I am of Drudge. :D

So now that we're employing this strategy, what do y'all think? Still think Obama is naive?

If that's where they are, that's where you attack.

Bingo...If you won't police your borders in a war zone, we will.

EDIT: According to Fox News, we got a high ranked A-Q leader responsible for recruiting foreign fighters, weapons and money.

Yes. A naive Muslim.

Naive? Maybe. Extremely abstract in his speeches? Absolutely.

Syria should have been part of the original Iraq attack plan. A hornets nest full of little stingers.

I say we load John Rambo and Chuck Norris into a catapault, launch 'em over the border and be done with it.

Problem solved! Ice cream for everybody!

McCain is right on this point. You go ahead and do this sort of thing.

You don't admit it publicly.

Wasn't he asked a specific question in a debate regarding this? Should he have said, "maybe" and been all Cheney-like?

Until after the fact...

I dont think Obama was saying that he was going to announce when he was going in without approval.

Correct answer is:

That would be a violation of international law. If we were to violate international law, we certainly wouldn't admit it. But at the same time, we can't permit our enemies to strike from any place with impunity. *nod*wink*

Everybody does it. Everybody knows everybody does it. Nobody admits it. Those are the rules of the game.

Yes. Syria isn't nearly as unstable as Pakistan nor do they possess nuclear weapons. They might have Saddam's old weapons now, but that's another topic. Either way, Vaevictis is right, you don't make it an open policy to do things like this.

That's why I love submarine launched cruise missiles. Plausible deniability.
