We all hear the doom and gloom from the media so I thought I would check the pulse of Sooner Nation on Christmas spending. I plan on spending less this year then last year, mainly because I have lost a fortune in the stock market the past 3-4 months. Still have cash on hand but there are priorities before Christmas spending. What say you?

Spend more this year?
Spend the same this year?
Spend less this year?
Spend nothing this year?

The kids will still get gifts from me but the adults can take a hike!

We'll probably spend the same, maybe a little less.

Probably about the same. The paper losses on investments weren't going to be used for Christmas anyway.

You are correct but it does take a mental toll seeing those numbers plummet.

Absolutely. Hate to see it, but what am I going to do?

Nothing to do but sit tight and ride it out, it just makes me feel better to tighten my belt so i feel like I'm doing something. The smart money buys in these downturns but who knows where the bottom is?

Spending has come to a halt down here. Lots of folks scared and job losses and layoffs are on the way. Hold on because its going to be a long bumpy ride. I will definitely be spending much much less.

We already told the kids that they can expect less this year. The economy is bad for Santa too. Hopefully we can cut it in half as we spend way too much on them usually.

Spending about the same, hopefully less. However that's a conscious decision by my wife and I to stop wasting money on presents for people who don't still live with their parents.

Spending less, partially due to the economy, partially due to our living situation. I will be moving back to OK on Nov 1, but the kids and hubby aren't coming til mid-spring at the earliest. So, this year Christmas is kind of blah, but boy next Christmas should be great!

In regards to spending at Christmas, we hardly charge any of it. We try and manage with what we have. That way the bills don't kill us in January.

Spending the same if not more. We're 48, we've got our child raised and only one semester left of her college to pay for, and we both have decent jobs. The thing is, we do this wierd old-fashioned thing. We write checks for stuff instead of using credit cards. When the checking account gets low, we stop spending. Wacky huh?:O

We'll be spending much less. But we'll probably be moving to Texas in December so the Holidays most likely won't get much attention from us this year.

less but the step dad divorcing my mom may have something to do with it.

I booked my ticket home for the Christmas holidays yesterday. US$2,300 for economy class. There's not a whole lot left in the budget for gifts except for my nieces and nephew.

Holy Cow! $2300? I have a hard time spending $300 on a plane ticket, lol.

Prolly less. Oilfield work might come to a grinding halt in the coming months. Besides, the kids have 10X more junk now than they need.

I think maybe more. I think the retailers are going to have SALES SALES SALES.
Time to take advantage.

Depends if I'm employed, but generally we aren't big gift givers in my family so I will probably spend my usual 150 or so if I have a job.
