View Full Version : My Electoral Map Prediction

SicEmBaylor

So, last summer, a friend of mine found this website where you can create your own Electoral map based on your own predictions. We all created our own maps, and I think I posted my prediction here months ago but I can't find the thread. Anyway, I dug up my map now that the election is close so I'm going to post it again. This is what I predicted around June or so, and I would like to amend the map a little but I'm going to stick with my initial prediction.

I can't find the same website that I used previously, but here is another similar site http://qando.net/images/election.swf. So, everyone post your predictions and we'll see who gets close to the results.

Like I said, I'm going to stick with my original summer prediction. If I could make some changes though, I would flip WV, MO, and maybe NC.

I think Obama probably wins MO and NC. He has all kinds of Mo in Missouri (heh) right now. WV isn't going blue this cycle-McCain has about an eight-point lead in WV (plus, early voters are reporting that the voting machines in WV are magically changing their votes from Obama to McCain while they watch, and no I'm not kidding). Ohio I see as a narrow McCain win.

Not a bad map for several months out though, SicEm. Nice job on the Virginia pickup.

I think in a surprise move, DC is going to McCain.

I also think that the VP is in charge of the Senate.

I'll actually be surprised if Obama wins Colorado. it's a weird state due to population density. Boulder/Denver will go to Obama....but the rest of the state is pretty conservative (outside some mountain towns).

Georgia is pretty solidly pro-McCain, as well they should be with one of his senior campaign officials being a registered lobbyist for Georgia.

The polling suggests that Obama has a pretty solid lead in Colorado, in no small part due to McCain's support of "stealing" Colorado's water for Arizona's use.

I still find it funny that you people joke about Obama and your weird ideas of socialism when the Bush administration and the Federal Reserve are busy nationalizing the failed banking system. Meanwhile, Congress is busy talking about stimulus packages to get consumers to rack up more debt.

I think it will be closer than the polls currently indicate and McCain wins all the swing states and the election. We are going to get a old warhorse in the whitehouse as the economy goes into the ****ter. At least, we aren't going to have socialism and our first muslim president. And, there will be no reason to worry about those deadbeat poor, since we will all be there.

Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology. My impression was that McCain had pissed off the rancher/farmer types with his water stunts. That seems to be borne out by polling numbers that are coming out of the state.

Obviously, you're on the ground there and I'm not, so you'd be able to read the mood better than me.

I recognize that it's an opinion piece. An opinion piece is where I'd go to find out what someone's opinion on something is. The writer is a Coloradan. Contained in the opinion piece is some information that formed the author's opinion.

If it's not something that people have talked about in Colorado, fair enough. It's gotten some play in the national media as one of the reasons CO is polling blue, though. It's not like I just made it up.

Cool. Anyhow, as it happens, all of the recent polling shows Colorado pretty far into the "leans Obama" category. Part of that is probably due to the economy (fairly or not) being laid at the Republicans' feet. I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression that the CO GOP was fairly upset with McCain over his comments about water rights.

Let's just say I will be fairly surprised if CO's electors go to McCain.

Heh. I just noticed that North Friggin' Dakota just moved into toss-up status on RCP.com.

I'm going to make a further prediction. Depending on how close the popular vote is in the eastern time zone states, it's possible this election will be more or less decided when the central time zone states polls close (they'll hold off calling FL until the panhandle polls close). If Obama wins FL, OH, PA, and picks up a state like Virginia or NC then it's over for McCain, and I'm confident the networks will start calling the race at that point.

It's very possible that the winner will be declared before the mountain and west coast polls even close.

Word.

Isn't there something in the Bible about getting the stick out of your own eye before removing the speck from someone else's - or something?

Word, indeed.

There are sticks in everyone's eyes and that is going to hurt for a very long time.

There are news headlines now about the US government taking over the nation's largest insurers.

Earlier there were news stories that nobody can promise tax cuts because the bailout measures are going to cost too much.

At least, the Bush administration isn't talking so much about the government buying near worthless mortgage loans from the banks and owning houses until the property market recovers.

And, again, the injection of capital through preferred shares of the few "favored" banks makes me uneasy.

I dunno. Maybe you are right, Stoop Dawg, I need to take the stick out of my own eye first.
