receiver at the line when the ball is snapped?

Can he knock the receiver down?

Hold him before the ball is in the air?

Spit in his eye's?

okay, the rules between the nfl, ncaa, and even ossaa might be getting blurred together a bit...

But I believe the defender can "chuck" the receiver within 5 yds of the los if the ball isn't in the air.

This is just like pass interference, tuck rule all that ****, all up to the official and his damn opinion.

Holding is never legal. I think the defensive guy is allowed to block a potential receiver to the ground if he can manage to do it. I see this on shallow crossing routes all the time (less than 5 yards). The risk is the QB letting a pass go in that direction and drawing the flag if the ball is in the air at the time.

The DB can "jam" (knock him off his route) a reciever within five yards of the line of scrimmage as long as the ball is not in the air.

nothing in a Venables formation...CBs are 5-10 yards off most the time. Jackson's slip will cause BV to move them back to 15 yards from hear on out. What a joke.

I sure hope you're wrong but I'm skeered that you're not.:(

Play 15 yards off the LOS, ensuring no big plays are given away...just 7-8 yards in the middle every play. Ha ha - I kid! I kid!

did you watch the play where he slipped? he was in bump and run coverage 2 yards off the LOS. he chucked the receiver once and then when turning to run with him fell. i thought everyone was begging for us to use more man?

as for the original question:

it seriously depends on the referees - you are technically allowed to bump the receiver for the first 5 yards as long as the ball is not in the air. however, in 99 one of the reasons we went away from man to man was that they were calling us for holding if we pushed too much in the first 5 yards.

I'm all for playing a more aggressive man coverage and running the risk that a play like that slip happens 1 in 100 times. What I hate is being nickel and dimed for 7 - 10 yards while the defense trys to prevent the big gain.
