View Full Version : Demarco and the running game

Demarco looked like his old self, running with authority and putting some moves on in traffic. No comparison on how he was running the previous two games.

Also, we ran more than our favorite 'up the middle no matter what' play. Granted KU's defense wasn't very good but at least we ran something different.

Agreed, we went outside more and had success with it.

KW obviously was on here reading last week about us dissing his woefully unimaginative run scheme. Glad we showed a little versatility. Demarco looked consideraby better IMO. It's a wonder what not having to run into a brick wall every run play will do for a RB.

Demarco looked good on about every one of his carries ... hopefully this is the start of a very positive trend that will continue on for the rest of the season/post-season!

It helps that he wasn't going into the Texas D-lineman . . .

That's true. But even with that, he looked like a completely different back from the get go. Running the ball (actually making cuts and hitting the hole hard), kickoff returns and even downfield blocking.

I thought KU's run defense was highly ranked?? Great job by Demarco and Wilson and the line this time. Let's keep it going.

Maybe I read more into it, but it seemed like he was slow outta the gates at first. He got pulled for a few play's, and came back'n pop'n the holes like somebody maybe had a come to Jesus meet'n with him. Agree with NCSooner, he started making cuts and actually looking for daylight.

Ku had the second ranked defense in the league coming into the game right behind us. They also had the second ranked rushing defense coming in only behind Texas.
Give the running game some credit, KU was allowing less than 100 yards a game and we easily had over 200 yards rushing.

I was very pleased to see both Demarco and Chris both running with confidence again...they looked like **** from TCU to Texass...

last i heard, KU had one of the best defenses around. i don't know who said their D isn't good.

I agreee that DM showed some ellusiveness that we hadn't seen since last year before his knee injury. Its nice to know he is-or seemed to be- regaining his confidence. Maybe the O-line realized that they weren't performing at the level they should be and stepped it up. As a RB it's nice to know that you can trust the line to open seams for you. it does wonders for your confidence.

I think KW laid into them pretty good last week...

the fact that we didnt run every single running play between tackles certainly helped. I thought I saw a couple counter draw plays, and even a pitch sweep! holy crap!!!

Not accurate
fiu = 128yds rushing
la tech = 126yds rushing
usf = 61yds rushing
sam houstong st = 161yds rushing
iowa st = 117yds rushing
colorado = 151yds rushing
oklahoma = 134yds rushing.

but nonetheless you all are very correct and i was down right giddy. the rushing game looked sooooo much better and creative. i was 3 pitch sweep running plays, 2 counters and 1 draw. the big surprise was how effective the zone read play was.

did you also notice the d in the second half (outside of the one drive where they ran the ball every play and scored).
8 possessions for them in the second half
8 yds = punt
80 yds = rushing td
7 yds = punt
35 yds = punt
-10 yds = punt
2 yds = punt
7 yds = punt
75 yds = passing td (a few subs in game)

the d line was wreaking havoc in the backfield, and tackling. they looked much better.

It defintely is easier to run when the defense doesn't know the exact spot you're going to run it to every time. You would have thought KW would have known this heading into the Texas game, but at least he learned it by the Kansas game.

shsu = 45 yards rushing
isu = 97 yards rushing
CU = 86 yards rushing

That put them at 94ypg prior to us playing them.

I don't know where you're getting your info but it's wrong.

It's funny what happens when you run the ball and dominate the TOP.....

I'm with everyone, DM7 Finished some runs, the line blocked very well, and I thought KW had a good game plan, I also thought the line started the game physical almost to make a statement, the 1st play of the game Loadholt drove his block to the ground then forearmed his face when he got up. Be nasty from the onset. I still like Chris Brown as a better every down back, he doesn't do anything flashy, but man he is very steady.

Their first and second string running backs are injured.

One thing that I noticed:
When Sam would set up from the shotgun, then audible to an ace backfield and go under center, we'd run the same stretch play, Klapp got one if I remember correctly, and it was killing me. BUT... as we did it again, for the 4th or so time I was about to give up on KW, he ran a little play action from it. I nearly wet myself. I don't remember the results from the play, as I was busy checking my drawers, but it was nice to see the change up.

CK, and that has what to do with their run defense?
