Michael Bay, er JJ Abrams...You ruined my childhood!!!!!!!!
I thought the reboot of trek was to recapture the essence of what made the old show great, yet...attract younger people who have never really watched it before.

The exterior shots of NCC 1701(No bloody A,B,C,D or E)sorta made me all misty inside....now that i've seen the interior shots....I wanna see a Romulan Warbird open fire on it. Yep, I'm a trekkie nerd whatever....damn.
This thing looks more high tech than....anything Starfleet ever produced aside from anything involving time travel.

Eh, don't look below-

I will say this, they got Eric Bana right as a Romulan...the way I always thought they should have looked on film.

That is a big honkin pic, I couldn't post it here...crikey!

I hope their is a subplot about Sulu needing to swing the Enterprise through White Castle. Also the interior shots really remind me of The Motion Picture, had it been made 30 years later. Crap, now I kind of want to watch TMP.

Well, at least they brought the Nancy Sinatra boots back.

It looks like the interior of the ship from Hitchikers Guide to the galaxy to me, too much plastic(transparent aluminum?)and the visuals look wayyyyyy too futuristic.

God forbid that JJ wants to ever have NCC1701 go into the future and run into NCC 1701E...I can't imagine what that would look like.

True, but part of the whole original idea was that they wanted the futuristic technology to be mostly plausible (aside from the transporter, which was really just a case of "hey, can we think of a way NOT to need to build a shuttle interior?")

Considering how fast technology has moved, you HAVE to update that stuff or it won't look "futuristic". Hell, control panels in some luxury yachts look more sophisticated than even Next Generation's "futuristic" technology.

The look doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is tha it will most likely be a gigantic pile of fail.

i second that. never been a fan of the show but the fact that the pictures in question are "mtv exclusives" is what bothers me.

That's funny. I was watching episode 1 of TNG last night and Troi had those gogo boots on. I got a laugh out of it.

I'm holding judgement until after I see the movie. But I agree, there has to be changes to make it look futuristic...

I heard Sylar was playing Spock... I don't think it'll work.

Harold is going to be severely dissappointed there are no white castles in space.

Actually I hear he was one of the better casting decisions and plays the part quite well, but Kirk...well not so much.
But think about it, Nimoy was the better actor between Shatner and himself...well duh. :D

Urban is supposed to be very spooky, some of the reviews of the scenes revealed so far say he has Bones down pat...I hope so since he was the glue that kept the franchise going past the series well into the movies.

Is that a goddamn eyeball on top of that thing?

I hate J.J. Abrams. He's the kosher Chris Carter.

I really hope there is scene where Scotty has to ride in on horseback with several phaser rifles to save the day. Or perhaps jump a couple of back yard fences.

Wow. I must be totally out of the loop. Apparently they are remaking Trek with the original characters played by new actors? I guess that much is obvious. Movie or TV series?

Also, why are there two late 20th century retail barcode scanners in that first picture? Does the bridge double as the commissary?

Big Budget Movie next memorial day. Paramount wants to make it a tentpole movie franchise.

Big budget movie and they prominently utilize $150 equipment that everybody who has shopped at Target will eventually recognize? Fail.

BigRedJed

If you're doing a "big budget" film, one of your number one priorities should be to facilitate suspension of disbelief, IMO.

BigRedJed
10/22/2008, 11:25 AM
OTOH, when you're doing a LOW BUDGET space movie, it's OK to make props out of recognizable PVC pipe fittings from Home Depot, styrofoam packing, and hot tubs turned on their edge. If done properly, THAT is endearing.

It was subtle though, no?

Well, all the ALL CAPS and bold parts kind of disqualify it from "subtle", but I will grant you "quasi-subtle". ;)

Here, I'll bring the thread full-circle:

Good, 'cause for some reason the old Sulu always wanted to swing by Uranus.

Wouldn't that actually make the **** go further inward? I mean, they don't call it "fudge unpacking".

BigRedJed

Nope. Fudge unpacking is what happens when I eat stuff with ricotta cheese in it.

Apparently there were 6-7 places that got "exclusive" photos. MTV just happens to be one of them.

Also, I just found this entertainment weekly article. Pretty good read
