View Full Version : * McCain-Obama Debate Thread - Armageddon *

McCain has to pull out all the stops here. Obama basically has to smile and stick with his talking points.

Tiebreaker.
I scored Debate #1 for JM and Debate #2 for BO.

Most unbelievable "good to see you again Senator Obama" EVAR.
Otherwise...sounds like another strong start for JM.

I just hope they don't start pointing fingers looking for somebody to blame for the financial mess. I just want to hear what they are going to do about it.

Cons:
Both guys have bad ties on.
Both guys are listing to one side in their chairs.
Obama is sneering and JM is drooping.

VeeJay

Nice thought BO. With union wages, who can afford to "create" jobs here?

Every POTUS wants a line-item veto.

Will you or won't you say those things to BO's face?

VeeJay

That's a beautiful firearm, alright. I am giving serious consideration to investing in some more firearms over the next few weeks, largely because - B-B gun exaggeration aside - it is obvious that an Obama administration with a Democratic Congress is going to be very hard on law-abiding gun owners. Now CNN does one of these "snap" polls, and it's 59% to 31% in favor of Obama "winning" the debate. 10% more Democrats in the sampling, though.

Honestly, McCain talks like he'll take a very hard line against a lot of countries we don't like.

That hasn't worked yet. Not talking to those governments and leaders just means we don't know what the hell they're doing.

"Know thy enemy."

Can't know 'em without talking to 'em.

So Rage Against The Machine was right. I knew it.

I had to modify my AR so it was only Semi instead of Full.

The cops out here don't treat people with fully automatic weapons too kindly.

I've got a Ruger Mini-30 (semi-auto, of course), but since it has the magazine limit I don't think that would be a problem in California. Not sure, though.

Next summer, when I take a trip to the Shasta Mountain region in Northern Cal, I think I'll just not take any chances and leave it at home.

My knowledge of Rage Against The Machine's catalog is extremely limited. I'm not much of a fan.

Though a quick Google search turned up that riot police prevented them from performing at an outdoor concert in Minneapolis during the recent RNC because they didn't have a permit, despite the fact that the band had and produced a valid permit.

I've got a mini waiting for me in Tulsa that I'm picking up in November and bringing back. I'm going over all the SoCal laws before I pick up all my guns to make sure I don't get in any trouble.

And there are a LOT of gun laws out here.

You started the attack, KinderKid. I wasn't attacking anyone in here and you decided to try and launch into me since you couldn't contribute anything to the adult's discussion.

I'll likely end up leaving all my firearms at home, even though my CWL would cover me as far as sidearms through most of the states I have to travel through.

Glock 30 is winter carry weapon; P-239 Sig for the summer. S & W Airweight in +p for backup. Is the 23 .40 caliber or 9mm? I'm not familiar with that model.

The 23 is a 40 cal.

I'm lucky that I actually GOT a ccw permit for Cali (which is just about impossible if you live in LA). Still, it doesn't matter if you're in a National Park.

I got bored halfway through when I realized I was just watching the same debate as the first two.

So I switched over to the Stars game.

That having been said, I thought McCain's Espresso drip didn't kick in until about 15 minutes into the debate. And he did alright for himself, I guess.

I'm still not sure how much mileage he'll get out of trying to define the Obama-Ayers relationship.

I'm also not sure how the lower portion of the 95% of working Americans that Obama says will get a tax cut when they don't even pay taxes.

Or why Obama doesn't see why it's stupid to soak oil companies with taxes. Even if you think they deserve to get soaked, you all realize that oil companies will simply pass that tax on to the consumer, right? Just like they already do with the monstrous taxes they already have to pay.

Anyway, LAS and the rest of you can carry on.

I watched the debate at a Democratic fundraiser for my House District.

Personally, I thought McCain won.

For the first 20 or so minutes, I would agree.

Then he got all whiny about the negativity. And bitter. And then went into all the nasty things other people have said about him. And how Obama consorts with terrorists. But he finished that bit by saying "But my campaign is about the economy, and not raising taxes".

He had real points in all of those. But he lost them when he tried to turn around and claim that his campaign was somehow only about issues when they've been beating the "oooh, look he hangs, with terrorists!!!" drum for the last few weeks.

If he'd have finished that bit with something like "I hate bringing all these things up, but we have to take a long hard look at the n00b because we just don't know anything about how his mind works...I'd much rather spend time talking about issues like the economy, and keeping taxes low, but someone has to educate the people about my opponent, because he sure isn't", that would have kept him on a roll. As it was, after that little bit, he lost a ton of momentum and, IMO, never got it back. At that point, he turned into the 2004 Yankees in games 4-7 of the ALCS.
