Good thing they gave him a big extension to keep him away from Arkansas at the end of last year.

"They just told us. It's what he deserved," said senior quarterback Cullen Harper, who was benched after the Tigers' loss to Wake Forest loss and replaced by highly regarded sophomore Willy Korn.
Wow! No love loss there.

Clemson running back C.J. Spiller had mixed emotions seeing Bowden let go.

"I'm shocked. We are 3-3 because we didn't make enough big offensive plays," Spiller said. "I'm shocked by our record and now I'm shocked that our coach is gone.

"I enjoyed playing for coach Bowden and I liked him, but in the end he was yelling at us to be leaders and it wasn't working. He did all he could to motivate us but guys weren't buying into what he was saying. And he said a lot of the same things over and over again.

"He let the offensive coordinator [Rob Spence] run the show and we got away from me and James [Davis]. I think part of the problem was when he benched Cullen. Some people wanted the offensive coordinator fired, [Bowden benched] the quarterback and then he got fired."

holy cow. they hated him! can we take this moment to be thankful that our team is not Clemson?

I heard about this yesterday as a rumor from a Clemson alumni.

He drives 1200 miles to go to their home games and then make 1 away game a year. After the first two losses he and many of his Clemson friends started decommiting their donations to the school, and said the only way they'd get the money is if Bowden was fired.

After this weekends game he put his season tickets in an envelope with a nasty letter to the AD calling for Bowdens job. Hopefully he didn't mail them off yet. :)

Clemson in a nutshell:

GREAT RECRUITS.
NO CHAMPIONSHIPS.
OKLAHOMA B!TCH.

...

..

.

 Well, I've been wanting to use that for something for years now, but I haven't been able to since 2005, so... yeah. OKLAHOMA'S B!TCH! Nyah, nyah!

 I was making reference to something that we stopped referencing in 2005 for some odd and unexplainable reason that will not be explained here now

In any event, even if they do not fit the "OKLAHOMA'S B!TCH" label, they definitely fit the other two :)

I don't think I've ever seen so many quotes from players who were happy their coach got sacked.

Tommy should have stayed at Tulane; at least his kids would have got a better education!! (They'd know all about hurricanes and evacuations and stuff.) :O

Easily the most disappointing team this year, especially in that cupcake conference.

I dunno - the badgers are pretty disappointed with their 0-3 conference start this year up in the Big 10.

Wisconsin is a good one too, but I've always thought they were overrated period. I thought Clemson's offense would be spectacular and its been a dumpster fire.

Craig Loston -- Rivals #24 recruit and the #1 safety.

Clemson is the "most disappointing" team every year, so why the hell does anyone expect anything from them in the first place? That program has even larger delusions of grandeur than Texas A&M.

that should have said verbally committed to Clemson. I saw this on the Tom Lemming Report so I don't have a link.

Clemson has at least won a MNC since WWII (1981), aTm won their last in 1939 and a shared one in 1919 (with Harvard, Illinois and Notre Dame).

10/13/2008, 10:25 PM
its possible, but not probable, that A&M goes winless in the big 12. I'd lol for a whole year.

Karma - CLemson bailed on the OU game, probably in order to get more wins... Heh, only 1 Bowden left.

Oh, and how the SEC is inbred - wouldn't be surprised to see Muschamp go. Then what would Yeller Teef do?

Someone on the news wire hit the nail on the head - from the very start, before the expanded ACC, Clemson was a school in that conference that truly cared about football success.

The ACC is a basketball conference. You know, the conference you're pizzed at every March for getting eight bids to the Big Dance. The conference you hate in the spring, not in the fall.

With the addition of Miami and Va Tech, there is perhaps a little more football love than before when it was just Florida State, but really, when you have programs like Duke, and UNC, and UConn, how can you not love success in basketball?

Clemson wants football more than anything else in the midst of basketball country. And they can't have it, regardless of how many resources, recruits and fans they pour into their team. Must be frustrating.
