ok, this is ridiculous. our home attendance has been 84,715, 84,476, and 85,158. why is this? how can you call the first two a sellout if you can get another 400+ in the building? a lot of schools do this and it perplexes me.

whatever the fire marshall says the maximum amount of people allowed in the building is, that's a sellout. and if you can't sell that many extra SRO tickets, than it's not a sellout. if you're actually selling out all of your games, the figure should be the same every game!

Completely un-informed reply....but I think it has something to do with standing room? As you said it may have something to do with the fire marshall.

I guess they can call it a sell-out if they sell every "seat" for the game?

good point. i'm sure all the seats are sold. but if you're permitted to sell 2,000 SRO seats, and you sell 1,500 -- it's not a sell out. i need to uncover this mystery!!

I'm not sure owen field really has a capacity. Gaylord family memorial stadium seats somewhere around 85,200 i think

Stadium capacity is 82,112. So, anytime we surpass that number, it's considered a sell out.

Stadium capacity is 82,112. So, anytime we surpass that number, it's considered a sell out.

herein lies the problem. if "capacity" is 82,112, than 82,113 is impossible. if 82,112 is the number of seats, than 82,112 + (permitted # of SRO) = capacity. any time that number is not achieved it wouldn't be a sellout.

heh. Owen field is that exactly. The field. The actual stadium where people sit is called The Gaylord Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. That's the official names.

Someone better call the capacity police.

Owen Field's capacity is 11 Sooners. Should any other players try to enter Owen Field, the 11 Sooners at capacity shall evict those defying the capacity set through extreme force.

EDIT: There is no Gaylordia, only Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, whose capacity is irrelevant, as it is exceeded often and without care. :D

11. Oklahoma State 48,000

My OSU co-worker made a joke about getting an OU-Texas ticket from all the OU fans who will be in jail tomorrow morning. I told him I could get an OSU ticket from a trashcan and he said "actually we've been getting 50,000 + to our games this year..."

Their wikipedia page says the capacity is 60,000. LOL.

:les:LET'S NOT TELEVISE ANY OF OUR HOME GAMES 'CEPT THE GOONER GAME SO THAT OUR FANS ARE FORCED TO COME TO STILLY AND SELL OUT OUR OVERPRICED TICKETS![hairGel]

And yes, they have been getting more than 50k this year and yes, their official capacity is about 60k, but as most top Big 12 programs show, capacity is often less than the number that can actually attend :)

Point of information: Unless you work for Gaylord, the name is still Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The University of Oklahoma, and by extension the television group broadcasting the football games have to call it Gaylordia because of millions in donations, but none of us have to... unless you write for The Oklahoman or News Channel 9.

Go to official NCAA stats page and you'll see we are in the top 5 or so for "total attendance % of capacity" at somewhere near 104%...Boone State is about 30% below us and dozens of positions lower. (64,000 listed, I believe)
I'm in a Dallas hotel room with my laptop and I don't feel like researching it exactly, but we sell out of our listed seats every game.

The most important thing about seating is that there are two of them in section 7 row 3 that are going to have mine and my lovely lady's butts in them on Nov 22nd - hopefully Tech comes in undefeated too :>)

"Capacity" is a fixed number; attendance is how many peeps show up. Since they sell at ticket to every student who wants on a ticket, if more students show up on any given game day, the attendance will likely exceed capacity. If you have ever sat in the Student Section, you know it's SRO for most games...

Handicapped seating also plays a role in this. The University cannot sell the handicapped seats, only exchange the regular tickets of handicapped people for them. When said exchange happens, the University will try to resell those seats. The official figure is without handicapped seating figured in. which is, I think, fair, since the University really has no way of knowing how many exchanges it will need on any given game day, or if it can resell the seats.

The capacity of Owen Field is a simple question really. The dimensions of the playing surface is 360' x 160', or 57,600 square feet. Assuming a tightly packed group of individuals would each take up a 12" x 12" space, then the capacity of the playing surface is 57,600. Allowing an extra 6" a side in space would reduce the capacity to 25,440.

:D
